Shorts

Looking to get a new pair but its all a bit bewildering! Budget up to around £80ish if need be. Will be worn under baggies some of the time so hit me with some suggestions please!

Vote for endura on the price / performance. Good kit and not that pricey.

If you're wearing under baggies, they do liner shorts that are great as well (I've got a couple of pairs of their liners, some baggies, some bibshorts, some biblongs, jacket...... Impressed with all of it)

Endura are good, but find another £20 for Assos if you can.

Endura humvee are good for me, careful on the sizing as they come up small
Also if you look on single track online magazine they have a good range of shorts on their home page

Got some humvees, prefer the single track 2, but there really isn't a huge amount of difference between the two - both are brilliant but I like the magnetic closing pockets :-)

The clickfast liners are great with a decent pad too

I wear Sugoi liner shorts under my Singletrack baggies. The ones with the RC Pro liner. Sexy mesh beasts they are!

Do you mean liners or shorts?

I wear Endura FS2560 padded shorts under either Endura MT500 3/4 Sprays or Endura Singletrack and can't fault them. I think Endura makes great kit (usually) for the money. I think mine liners were £55, the MT500s were £70 and the others about £45.

Actually meant shorts as I don't wear baggies all the time. Depends if I meet up with the Mrs after a ride for lunch, baggies are a little less "look at me" if you know what I mean!

In all seriousness, how many hours of cycling do these expensive shorts last for? My £10 ones (2 pairs on rotation) have already covered 6000km. Will I really get longer lasting shorts if I spend nearly £200 on them?

I've tried alsorts of veggies and recently bought some enduro numbers, brilliant. They are a top fit, well padded and after a bit of a a tumble they seem quite accident proof. As mentioned they are snug, I ordered a large and could have gone xl. The liner is dead easy to clip in and out, easier than my Specialized as they are dead fiddly. I'll be buying another set

Your shorts may not last longer if you pay £200 - but your undercarriage might!

To be fair some of the super-expensive shorts are pretty fragile and won't stand repeated washing - Rapha Pro Team springs to mind. But if you're spending long days in the saddle it's worth paying more, you usually get softer/stretchier fabric, a more chafe-proof chammy and a better fitting cut. There are always outliers on the price/performance curve though, dhb being one example.

The best pair of shorts I ever had was a pair of Etxeondo Daily bibs, which were about £110 - the chammy in them was absolutely sublime, you could barely feel it was there. They've put a cheaper pad in now so they're nowhere near as good
