Details if the light?

I'm still in the either overdressed and too hot or underdressed and too cold stage of the year.

Did you ensure the cuffs of the jacket were over the cuffs of the gloves? Otherwise water will just run down the jacket and into the gloves.

Generally when riding in wet/winter being warm is more important than being dry (dry is difficult/impossible to achieve when riding). Warm and wet is ok, cold and wet is horrible.

+1

Temp is still showing as balmy 10oC.

Still good on you for being out in the not so nice weather, can't beat that feeling of fighting against nature, makes the summer seem oh so easy.

I've got a 100 mile ride from Newbury to Northampton via Bracknell tomorrow, what do you guys recommend as clothing? (sorry for hijack - but it's going to be a wet one.....)
between 9-14C
"2 raindrop weather graphic"
A useful 10 knot wind behind...

Have to agree that this isn't winter yet, just a bit chilly and damp!

Although I will concede that I did put my 3/4 'early fall' bib knickers and long sleeve jersey on this weekend will full finger gloves, not quite rule 5 but definitely rule 9..... smile

hmm it seems I'm not far from that, so we can call those rules "common sense" from now on wink

No, no, no, no - cycling is a mysterious and moody sport that transcends common sense, governed by a set of rules administered by faceless hardmen of the sport - rules that 'normal' people could not begin to comprehend! Look at any of the Rapha films, only a true cyclist would understand the pain and suffering 'proper' cyclists endure, indeed enjoy! wink

I seem to be conforming to 'pro culture' these days and even now I'm in full tights with a couple of long sleeve layers and thin gloves. Was doing intervals this morning in Richmond Park and it certainly wasn't warm!

You can always take stuff off/unzip it, you can't put more on biggrin

Re riding in the rain, I tend to avoid driving rain as its unpleasant, rain rarely lasts a whole day in the UK, so I'll try and wait it out if possible, surface water isn't an issue with SKS radceblades, they really work (overshoes to stop the odd bit of spray every now and again). For commuting, I know in an hour I will only get so cold/wet so don't tend to care much about those.

lol it aint winter yet, this time of year can be a PITA as you can get four seasons in a day. I think we are getting a taste for the cold weather, especially first thing in the morning out in the sticks, otherwise its settling @ 12/13 degrees here during the day which is balmy!!

I just had tights and a winter ls jersey on this morning, was fine for the the ambient temp, but there was a cold wind that cut through clothing, which was a pain, you city boys have it easy!!!

I try and avoid heavy rain, I don't mind it, I just cant be bothered with the hassle of drying all my kit when I get home, especially as my bike is kept inside my house. Although often when comuteing, you have no choice on the return leg, I spend enough time riding, I cant be arsed spending 20 minutes drying off and washing my kit.

My issue is what I set off in at 9am will be what I'm wearing come 3-4pm....
I can unzip stuff, but I can't be doing carrying clothes I don't need or wearing too much wet stuff towards the end...
I'm thinking:

Long sleeve top
Thin waterproof jacket (rolls into a tiny package)
Shorts
Overshoes
Helmet/Buff/glasses/mitts

The weather makes little difference to me TBH. The key difference is long or short sleeves in my merino tops and leggings vs shorts and the addition of a waterproof top when it's raining. I tend to run very hot so simply adjust my temperature by changing effort. Seems to work for me in ice, snow, or blazing sun.

Have given up trying to find waterproof gloves, dont think they actually exsist. Regarding overshoes BBB hardwear ones I find very good for the wet and v cold. The only water that will come in is from the top around the ankle, which is the case on all.

It really isn't winter just yet ... when its under 7 degs I think its more like it.biggrin

We abandoned our ride on Sunday after 40 miles due to the rain and standing water it was around 12 degs but soaking wet ... 1 x man down, 1 x puncture, 1 x chain off ... you get the picture.

It's true - I usually ride in just a lycra thong wearing thorn filled hobnail shoes and a maniacs grin. I cycle up 25% hills in my highest gear too.

Grand - eh?!
