Best new road bike for £500

been very impressed with the specs and look of the Btwin offering at decathlon. looking for some further inspiration though.

wont be buying anything second hand, has to be new, limit is £500.

suggestions please?

What about the Felt F95 from wiggle here. Granted it's got the Sora groupset but I believe it's much better than it was previously. I was looking at the Tiagra version earlier (but it's £60 more than your budget hence my suggestion).

I'm a recent convert to BTwin having purchased what was probably the last red Triban 3 in stock the other week. Whilst I was in store I saw a very nice Triban 5 with carbon fork and carbon seat stays (I think it was an old model).

There are some pretty good looking "Beone" bikes from Merlin around htat price, Vitus from CRC and that Moser from wiggle if its still available.

I have the Triban 7 which I like and appears to be by far the best equipped for the money. Service from Decathlon has also been very good. Remember to register for a membership card to collect points before you buy :-)

I have just bought the F95 as a winter trainer.

The Sora has been fine over the 100 or so miles I have done.

Very comfortable and handles well.

It also looks way more expensive than £500 including SKS racegaurds,bottlecage and lights from LBS!

Look at Pauls Cycles. We got £500 off a £1400 bike a couple of weeks ago. They do deal in cheaper bikes too.

The felt is a bargain. I've got a z85 (105) and prefer the compact frame but the f is great as well ( couple of mates have them).


Otherwise s/h off bikeradar. I got a fantastic winter trainer cannondale CAAD 8 with sora for 300 quid like new.

This was my first road bike (bought earlier this year in Feb) and afer 2,500 miles of beginner riding/maintenance it stills runs as new and I'll be off out on it again in an hour or so for more!

I have a Felt F90 from a few years ago that is of the same spec. It is a very good bike at that price point, even with the Sora (which as said before, are improved on my model).

I've never had an issue, but I am used to the bargain basement shifters etc. Those who have the higher spec kit will be able to give better comparisons.

Old Sora had thumb-shifters, which are pants. New Sora doesn't, but it hasn't quite lost the reputation yet.

Can't comment on longevity but as for the shift action front and rear I am impressed so far!
