400 quid is too much.

I do bike helmets should be reviewed as in essence they don't offer a lot of protection in any crash over 10 mph.

Do you know what's more annoying than wearing a "big, ugly, uncomfortable" helmet on my head? Wearing a big, ugly, uncomfortable scarf thing round my neck. And then getting third degree burns from the airbag going off when you drop your keys/phone/glove and bend down suddenly to pick it up....

You'd have to be a pretty hardcore fashion victim to shell out £400 to wear an explosive device around your neck to save your hair-do.

Obviously it's got no place on a Mountain Bike, I'd have that sucker firing off before I got 100 meters down the trail.

This video has been doing the rounds amongst my cycling friends on Facebook.

Those two girls certainly like the sound of their own voices. You would think they had invented nuclear fusion or something.

So basically they have pinched an idea from 2010 (Dainese perfected airbags in motorcycle jackets/leathers) and stuffed the now several year old tech into what resembles a scarf crossed with a neck brace.

Can't see it catching on myself!

Cyclists are gettig faster and cyle helmets are not really up to the job over low impact, it is about debate, not not using one, just evolving the design to offer better protection. This design offers something but it looks like potential issues to the neck but looks more of a fashion item.

What crap. I would rather a big hard mushroom on my head than an explosive neck brace. Whats that film where they wear them and they go off when you cross a line and decapitate you? Going to be like that.

I have never understood people who say a helmet is so heavy and uncomfortable, I don't notice I am wearing one at all, except if I go very fast and the strap vibrates.

Much rather have something permanent for £100 on my head than something for £400 that may or may not go off should I crash!

I'm not an expert in the slightest, but I think that most decent cycle helmets would be fine for the average 10mph 'cycle path' cyclist like me, as I think they are more designed to stop the head clonking the ground during a low speed collision or even just falling off the bike onto the ground.

I do not think they are designed to cope with any form of impact at higher speeds.

Anyone going at speed on the road or down the side of rocky mountains should consider wearing a full face helmet motocross style helmet at the very least to provide the sort of protection required.

I can't believe I just said that actually... I'm as anti nanny-state as you'll find!
