Along the A6 near Disley, i managed 33.6 mph, not fast i know, but with a broken spoke and a slackened off rear brake and the road was averagely busy.
(helmet wind noise was terrible)

56mph down A354 BTW, I wouldn't recommend it.

I get scared at anything over 60km/h to be honest, I start to think about the integrity of my freewheel or the consequences of a sudden tyre blowout....

OP - you'd do better trying some of the hills around Disley, the fastest being Goyt's Lane from the A6 between Whalley and Buxton down to Errwood reservoir. 50+mph is easy down there, just watch out for the corner at the bottom...

The effect at 50 is probably 99% of the effect of 60.

51mph. Gets a bit scary pedalling at the required cadence to get up to that speed though!

Mine is 41/42 I think, needed a very very long and very steep Alpine road for it - but 2.5 Downhill tyres don't help.

No doubt the usual game of one-upmanship will follow - but in regards to MTB speed, at least leaving aside Japanese volcanos and Speed-Skiing suits I think 60mph is about terminal velocity here's Casey Brown doing just that, it took a massive steep hill, oh and removing the brakes:

60kmh is plenty enough for me, bike must be short geared as well because that is spinning out.

43.6mph for me, which was fast enough. At "car" speeds, I don't particularly like my road bike brakes!

I recall zipping down the Col de Pailheres on a fine sunny July day and glancing at the old Gramin, which flashed up 56.4mph. I then immediately thought, perhahps not a good time to be glancing down at the Garmin!

.....hang on, just checked my Garmin Connect data.....max speed is 62mph chuffing down the Col D'Aubisque the day before! Eek!

I aint no particular speed freak fit-nut, but our old regular Wednesday lunch time 18mile jaunts used to end in a final sprint and we'd regularly get up to 35mph.

Is that the drop down to QECP on the SDW? If so I only got 34 (gps), 47mph on the roadbike, single carriageway A259 near Exceat. During a sportive, a mate was overtaking me (just ) and an articulated lorry was overtaking him

Off road bud. It was a bit bumpy on a full susser, couldn't imagine what carnage would happen trying it on a road bike!!
