Poor-man's GoPro?

Aldi HD "Action" camcorder - how awful would this be?

My mate has a GoPro and its a fancy bit of kit, but I wouldn't spend that amount of money. But wondered if this would be half decent either to record fun mountain bike rides, or as an "evidence-gatherer" on the road?
Is this the first time they have sold it?

Could also be used for internal examination I suppose...

filling the card won't be the limiting factor!

It depends what your budget is but the Drift HD is a good affordable alternative. Either that or see if you can get a good price on a Contour Roam.

The tech sheet states the sensor is only 1mb, not sure how it will achieve 720p.

Was looking at one of these.. quite tempting. Can't help think of the buy cheap buy twice saying though.

Widescreen 720p is ~0.9 megapixels. 4:3 is less.

One of my mates has a Contour Roam, really nice bit of kit. Feels much more expensive than it is.

I bought one yesterday. You know what...for forty quid it's pretty good.

It's no gopro, the biggest drawback is actually that the microphone is hopeless when it's in it's waterproof case, but it's a lot better than my old gen 1 gopro and I won't be too upset if it gets lost or damaged.

If you want to make beautifuly edited films, save up for a gopro, however if you just want occasional souvenirs of that bit of trail/piste/windy day sailing/favourite B-road, it's fine. Also fits gopro mounts with a slight bit of modification to the case too.
