Can't think of anything worse. The way yer' averag Strava-chasing sportive queen wobbles along, adding this in will be carnage. Not to mention making them even more earth-shatteringly dull...

I love posts like these. I always assume the poster that hates strava soooooo much is a long term cyclist that has always "known" that he's better than pretty much everyone else on a bike, but is now bitter because he's been whooped by a fat accountant called Keith.

Couldn't be more wrong smile

I use Strava for ride tracking, distance logging etc, etc. And I'm happy with my riding. However, never have I engaged in excited, self-promoting discussion about "KOM this" or "Segment that". Or if I have, I soon bored myself to tears and quickly stopped. Others, however, seem hell bent as using it as an expression of their performance, of how good they are. Well, if you're _that_ good and want to see how you stack up against others...go racing. Funnily enough, very few do...

The thought of some Castelli-clad cock-knocker astride their carbon bling-bucket, riding along worrying about how they look on the internetz (rather than how they ride in the group) and boring the tits of others talking about it as they go...oh deep, deep joy.

Well all the people I follow on Strava do race - I started using Strava about 2 years ago and I absolutely love it. Yes I have got loads of KOMs and I do get pissed off when people take them off me (yes sad indeed), but I'm convinced that Strava has actually made me a stronger rider - very useful as a training tool, in fact so much so it's motivated me to take up racing again after a very long absence, with very pleasing results. If you don't agree with all the aspect of Strava fair enough, but I think you're being a bit harsh on all the people who do enjoy using it.

Not sure it would be on a road bike but as a mountain biker I would find this massivley distracting to the point of being dangerous. When I'm riding at speed off road I need to concentrate on where I'm going and what's coming up, so having strava in my field of vision constantly would be an issue. I used to to have a pair of goggles that displayed things like speed etc for snowboarding but once I got over the novelty factor I just found it annoying.

A heads up display for your bike, being able to cycle and see information I front of you like speed and heart rate or cadence or power and even have directions without having to look down?

I think that sounds great, anyone who uses head up displays will tell you they're fantastic, why would you think it's such a bad thing on a bike?

I haven't had opportunity to view the vid until now and I have to say... I'm a fan. In fact, I'm a fan of Google Glass regardless but this type of application really suits me. If they can make it work for people with specs like me, then I will be an early adopter. I use Endomondo rather than Strava but I doubt it'll be long before they have their app working with Glass.

Having maps available to me as I ride, plus text, send pics to people with a wink as I ride... it's brilliant.

Google glass must be one of the best inventions of my life time. Was going to say ever but I don't think I can compare to things such as electricity or cars !

I agree with Jimbo, yes. I don't particularly pay much attention to segments and use it as a log and I enjoy seeing what people I know are doing.

I find it useful for tracking progress, in particular average speed over set routes and climbs. Less useful on flat segments as the Sunday club / chaingangs always demolish any times that an individual can set.
