It's not about advice for cyclists, though. It's about motorist behaviour, and showing the woman riding (perfectly legally) without the helmet helps get over the message that cyclists are vulnerable human beings and not just obstacles in the road. "s
t, if I knocked her off her bike she could be really badly hurt" is the desired emotion. Hence not being dressed like a power ranger with a lycra fetish.

Which has got nothing to do with being a lycra clad power-ranger type. I know it's legal, but so is smoking, and you're not allowed to advertise that on telly- for good reason. All that nonsense about compulsory helmet wearing reducing cycling participation being wheeled out again- if people think that looking cool or not getting helmet hair is a good reason to disregard their safety then they need to think about their priorities.

Why not compulsory helmets for pedestrians as well then? If safety matters that much then I'm sure you won't mind wearing one while you walk to the shops...Hahahaah, good, its about time they did stuff like this. I am fed up with the motorist being villanfiled. This just shows common sense prevailing. After all why should adverts showing cars speeding etc even if it were on a track is banned. They should also ban any ads now showing cyclists racing on the streets.

I googled "villanfiled"...http://www.bikeradar.com/road/news/article/cycle-s...
..."Did you mean: valenfield; vlan field; villanelle; villain film" was google's response.
I'm going to take a punt here and suggest you meant 'vilified'. Furthermore, given the indecipherable gobbledegook of your fourth sentence, I'm going to completely ignore your opinion, as presented in the post quoted above.
For my part, I've signed the petition, and attached an appropriate essay to support my argument. This decision is outrageous, and only serves to encourage ill-informed opinion from non-cycling drivers as to the correct position for a cyclist in the carriageway. 0.5 metres from the kerb is insufficient for safe progress, not just in my opinion, but according to very many statutory bodies who have published advice on the matter. In many cases the advised safe distance from the carriageway edge is a minimum of 1 metre, varying to "the centre of the left most traffic lane" according to the prevailing conditions. If motorists were taught properly how to drive, and not simply to achieve the minimum test standard for as long as it takes to gain a licence, then we'd all be far better off.
Yup - result. Just received this as a result of signing the petition:
"Hey there
Well, we knocked the b
d off - as Sir Ed said. This morning the ASA announced the following:
"The ASA has withdrawn its formal ruling against a Cycling Scotland ad pending the outcome of an Independent Review. That followed a request from Cycling Scotland, in which it argued that the ASA’s criticism of the positioning of the cyclist was incorrect. The decision to withdraw was made by the ASA Chief Executive in light of a potential flaw in our ruling. Once the Independent Review process is complete we will publish our decision on our website"
How much influence 3,400 of you piling on in had to do with it we'll never know - but when I called the ASA at 4pm yesterday the bloke on the phone knew about the petition and was sounding a bit harassed to say the least. It's all power to the collective cycling elbow.
Let's wait and see what their own internal review finds - if they find the ruling stands, then be sure I'll print out the petition and along with whoever wants to join in - Cycling Embassy of Great Britain, LCC, et al - meet with Mr Philips in person to present the case.
Pedal on.
Mike"

I think I am going to do a petition to re-impose the ban. It is lawlessness for cyclists to do this. Plain and simple the majority of them are a nuisance and risk taking twits.
Off topic question, but what grade are you in?
