Cycling Magazine Subscription - Which would you choose?

Today is my birthday, and one of the gifts was a 9 issue subscription to one of 5 cycling magazines:

Cycling Plus
Pro cycling
What Mountain bike
Mountain Biking UK
Triathlon Plus

I'm swaying between Cycling Plus and Mountain Biking UK, as they are the only two I've read before.

I've been buying MBUK for the last 6 months or so, quite enjoy reading it.

The only thing I'll say though is that most of the stuff they review is astronomically expensive, even just cycling gear.

But then I guess we all read car magazines and they have super cars @ £200,000+ a pop so no different really...

i agree, cycling plus and mountain biking uk are the options i would go for. clearly depends on your sort of riding and what you are into. i was given a subscription to cycling plus for a year for my birthday a few years ago. after about 9 months it was just turning out the same articles over and over again but it was a good read up until then. if yours is for 6 months then it should be a good one to get.

Cycling Plus - A bit meh, the reviews are preditcable and very slanted towards particular brands. tries to cover too many bases so some issues are void of anything of interest.

Pro cycling - Good, not Rouleur in terms of depth and variety of articles but ok in terms of whats happening on the Pro scene. If you are even remotely savvy about purchases, you will not need a magazine to tell you what to buy thus I'd go for this.

What Mountain bike - A bit samey, buy it if you are looking for a new bike but after that I dont see the point, always reads like bike shop brochure to me.

Mountain Biking UK - A bit too comicy for my tastes, better than a few years ago but not a patch on the mid nineties. Seems to downhill/freeride centric.

Triathlon Plus - Someone left a few copies in our canteen, one had an article in it about how to drink from a bottle whilst riding. I didnt read anymore.

Triathlon Plus and Cycling Plus share quite a few articles, so I wouldnt bother with both, especially if you arent into triathlons.

I have cycling plus, which came through the door today. Too much ' aluminium is better than carbon' drivel goes on and then they do a cheap carbon test this month. Not read it much, but it will be going into the 'bog fodder box' next to my throne tonight........... Its easy reading, even if Guy Kesteven is someone over the years I somewhat grown to not like.

I'm still undecided. Pablo's post sums it up quite well. I've only read cycling plus and MBUK before and only every now and again. I'm not sure I'd want to read them each month.

Hmm I'm egging towards MBUK, but I'm much more a xc rider than fr and not dh at all.

That or cycling plus.............I don't know, I used to be indecisive, but I'm not so sure now.

Once you have read 12 months of cycling plus you have read them all as they repeat the content the next year, just change the words around a little

Pro Cycling would get my vote too

you can search out some good deals..I've got cycling plus on a quarterly D/D for just over £7

AS it's a present. I'd got with Procycling.

If it was my money I wouldn't buy any of them. Sad but true. All the news is out of date by the time you read it. The interviews are rarely worth any effort these days. I could care less what Cancellara thinks about his chances this season. Riders, generically always say the same platitudes. I want to hear from Vaughters, Brailsford, Holm etc. Team managers are far more interesting (same applies to F1 btw - Rather an 10 page interview with Ron than Jenson)

Cycling Plus is OK if you're new to road riding but quickly becomes repetitive.

But, Rouleur. So very, very shiny I feel bad reading it. This months was thin though, wasn't it.
