I am not big on the whole gel and sports food thing so try to stick to natural stuff without added 'magic' ingredients - I tend to use things like flapjacks and the naked 'pressed fruit' bars for mid-ride fuelling. Don't get me wrong, I am not a tree hugging veggie who violently opposes caffeine etc, I just find that the 'sports' foods and supplements don't agree with me. Also, I have quite a low rhr and find that caffeine infused stuff gives me violent palpitations - not nice when climbing!

Recently however I stumbled across the next big thing in 'in-flight' cycle re-fuelling and thought that I would share it with the P/H peloton...........Ella's Kitchen baby breakfasts! They are a blend of rice and fruit, full of natural slow release sugars and carbs, come in sealed pouches that fit nicely in your jersey and cost about £0.80 p per pouch - plus they taste great!

If like me you don't want to stuff yourself full of 'quick fix' food on your ride then I strongly suggest you give these a go, I can highly recommend the banana breakfast with baby rice!

They have replaceable screw caps as well don't they, the fish pie one caused our 6 months old to projectile vomit (if I am thinking about the same pouches)!

Yup, that's the stuff but I would steer away from savoury - I tried the beef stew a couple if weeks back when I rode from Bracknell to Bath and nearly did the same thing as your youngster! Fruit based stuff is lovely though!

Little one loved the rice pudding and it did smell good, seeing as the youngest will be weaning soon I may get away with stealing a few!

I used them last year during IM Wales. They're brilliant, the packaging works, the flavour is good, the substance is good.

You just look like a div if anyone recognises you're eating 'baby' food.

I've spotted baby food pouches and thought they'd be a great idea. They should definetly be good for more sensitive stomachs too!

I rode straight down the A4 after picking the A4 up near Twyford - which in hindsight was not a great idea! Traffic was bad through Reading, Newbury and Hungerford but generally speaking the A4 was not too bad considering what a major road it is. However, the road surface was shocking with huge pot holes, and some very draggy surfaces where the tarmac had worn away leaving the large stones in the tarmac exposed.

I will do it again, but next time I will try to plan a route parallel to the A4 - section from Marlborough to Calne is very exposed but views were great.

Don't be daft! You heat them up in a tiny hub dynamo powered microwave oven slung betwixt top and seat tubes. Be careful if sprinting heroically out of the saddle though wink

Yup, it's all pre-cooked which is why the fruit based stuff is good but the meat meals make you gag just a bit.......

Already sewn into our shorts!!

Stainsburys and tesco do a bigger kids version in a 4 pack. They also pretty handy.

You'd assume that there's a bit more science in the gels though.
