If you think the anti-cycling mob was bad over here, look at the comments under this, which is reporting mere proposals to have a minimum passing gap of 1m for under 60kph and 1.5m for over 60kph, which I'm sure we'd all agree to be fairly sensible.

Not to the average Aussie...

Sadly, it's about the same here on the other side of the deetch. It's terrifying knowing that some of the people you're sharing the road with actually think like that.

I'm not sure why they bother mandating minimum passing widths. I'm yet to see any motorist follow them, its purely down to how much space an individual driver feels they need to leave.
