What type of bike… Again
Discussion
So after 18months of saving I've finally got enough for a new bike. Now my current bike is a Scott Voltage FR20. Now a lot of my mates have upgraded to full on Downhill bikes Norco Aurrem, Moonraker Summun and Devinci Wilson.
Now I'm based in the east midlands so I generally ride Chicksands, Woburn but go down to PORC in kent quite a bit and the odd uplift day and are once yearly pilgrimage to the Downhill Worldcup in Scotland then we stay on the Monday and ride the Worldcup track. Now i've never felt under biked off the drops and jumps with the voltage just it struggles to carry the pace compared to the full on downhill bikes on the twists and steep bits. It doesn't have the rake of a new downhill bike. I had a go with the norco and it's like riding a magic carpet and would just tear up the corners and soak up the jumps. I think the correct word is plush.
Im just wondering do I need a full downhill bike for the U.K? It seems just a bit to much bike for the track a full on Downhill bike comes in at about 17kgs.
So how about something like this comes in just under 13kg?

would be used for about 12-13 uplift days a weekend away at fort williams and just and most weekends riding at PORC. Woburn etc hitting jumps and drops.

I had this dilemma, i really fancied a DH bike after riding a mates as i was seduced by the plushness and the way it handled anything in it's path.
Then i reasoned that it just wouldn't get used properly as I also live in the midlands.
So i bought the YT - (the wicked not the new one)

Does everything - jumps brilliantly and has eradicated by fear of doing decent sized gaps jumps, handles DH courses quite easily (although ive not done the WC track at Fort Bill!) and will manage 20 mile cross country routes and trail centres without issue. It will ride all around both trails at Cannock then head down the Stile Cop - it's very much a jack of all trades.
It really does ride DH like a DH bike - with the added advantage of being able to ride back up again.
I suspect the new one will be even better...
