Anyone drop their 2*10 to 1*10?

Got a Whyte 901 I use mostly for commuting. Realised that I never, ever use the smaller front ring so was thinking about dropping the ring and shifter off the bike. Seem reasonable?

Not done it yet but as the advantages are supposed to be less chance of dropping a chain and less clutter/weight its not really an issue for a commuter so I wouldn't have thought its worth the hassle?

I just built my bike without the front mechanism. Not felt I need the lower gearing yet. Chain angle is an issue in lower gears so I need to see about moving the outer ring more inboard. Also if you change gears too quickly the chain can fall off as there's nothing to retain it at the front.

Did it on my mtb, ended up with less clutter but gears were a bit more compramised. really not woth the aggro fro the little weight it saves.

I swapped the triple for a single 34T narrow/wide raceface ring. Works well for most situations but I do spin out at about 22mph. Would rather a slightly larger one but I think it will foul the frame as the 34 runs close.

It's nice only have one gear changer to worry about and I know use pretty much the whole cassette rather than just a few of the cogs

I did it on my Spicy, 30t narrow-wide and a 11-36 on the back, 1st is low enough for even the super-steep new trails in SWales, but I noticed the other day I was out of gears on some of the wide downhill bits - it's fine on technical downhill though, there's no room for pedalling on the gnarly bits anyway.

I've kept my 2 COG set up for the Brecon Beast in Sept.

I love single ring up front.

I run 32 X 11-36 on my hardtail. It's just perfect for all my riding. Yes I do spin out on fire roads but who cares. Chain retention with a top guide only is superb.

I run a narrow wide chainring with a clutched rear mech and a one up components 42t first gear and it's the perfect setup. Just choose your chaining size for the type of riding and forget about it, never had a chain drop.
