Giant AnyRoad

Was in my lbs today picking up a new Giant XTC and they had one of these in the window;

a new model for this year apparently that had just come in.

Has anyone on here actually purchased one or know anything about them?
Was thinking of getting one for a road bike as opposed to a proper racer. No racing just occasional recreational 5-10 mile rides.
What do you think and how would they compare?

There was a 'what CX' thread recently and the chap bought an Any Road. Shouldn't be much beyond page 3. I don't think the OP has had it long, but its probably worth a PM

Thanks for the heads-up on the cx thread, I've just been having a read.
It was Sutton who ended up buying a Giant AnyRoad 1. I'll send him a pm to get his opinion.
Seems like the only differences between the AnyRoad 1 & 2 is Shimano R460 shifters/FD (R350 on the 2), carbon seat post (ally on the 2) and SRAM BB7 brakes (BB5 on the 2). Is all of this worth the extra £200?
I will go back to the lbs and try and get a test-ride.

Reading the cx thread, it would seem that Planet-X is very popular. Being so out of touch with cycling, it's a make I've never heard of. How would it compare to the AnyRoad?

I have the Planet X CX bike. Only had it a day and I've ridden it 17 miles so far. Its early days, but i really enjoyed today's ride. Dealing with Planet X is a PITA. I had three build dates and it took 5 weeks from date of order to get my bike.

If you want a CX bike thats cheap and great value, then the Boardman CX Comp is with a look. Don't get too hung up on the fact that its sold in Halfords.

Once I've done 500 miles on the Planet X, I will post up a review of it. I will spend most of my time commuting on it.

Are there any discounts/deals to be had on the Giant AnyRoads at the moment?
I spotted a AnyRoad 1 in a lbs where I'm working this week and am very tempted to grab it if the deals right.

I saw one today for the first time in a LBS in Farnborough. It's actually quite a nice looking thing close up. I'm not sure I want one, but I certainly wouldn't point and laugh if I saw someone riding one

Update:

Tried the Giant AnyRoad 1 today and ended up buying a Trek Crossrip Elite (similar spec cx bike)
Whilst the Giant was a very nice bike for the money, the Trek fitted me better and I just seemed more at home on it.
