My cousin, when much, much younger, was dared by his best mate to ride down a steep hill near where they lived with his hands crossed over on the handlebars.
Why he agreed to try is something of a mystery, but maybe not so much for teenage boys.
Why (and indeed how!) he decided to do this with his hands on the drops is rather more of a mystery.
Why he decided to keep gripping the bars when he hit the curb at the bottom of the hill because he couldn't reach the brakes is the biggest mystery of all!!
If any teenage boys are reading this, it's not big, and it's not clever, and you'll be reminded of that every time you have to ask your mother or the school nurse to wipe your bottom for you because it's not something you can do yourself with both your forearms in casts because you've simultaneously broken both wrists!

Fantastic! I can't say I haven't done anything similar and broken bones/face in the process. Its all part of growing up ... and having the scars to show for it.;)Why he agreed to try is something of a mystery, but maybe not so much for teenage boys.

When I was a kid I had a child's racer with the gear change on the crossbar - I was cycling along with a plastic carrier bag in my hand, went to change gear, plastic bag lodges in front wheel and stops the bike dead. The first thing to hit the tarmac was my face. And to top it off 2 weeks later I won quite a big tennis tournament and got a large photo of me collecting my trophy on the back page - I had no skin on my face from nose to chin and was missing 2 teeth - not one to cherish !!
