London to Brighton
Discussion
I'm on the 6a.m. start too, so will also ride it this year (last few years we have entered but been allocated later starts so didn't ride it due to the chaos).
Its an odd ride to do, its clearly not a sportive more charity ride. So either take it seriously and ride down and back or just ride down in fancy dress (as fast as costume allows) and stay for the day with family and friends doing it.

Working from home today so was pleased to see my welcome pack plop on the doormat. 6am start for me too!
Will be my first ride with more than one other person on road - unless me and my mate do the Evans "King of the Downs" ride 2 weeks before it, which will be decent training i suppose.
Done quite a few 40-50 mile rides recently so i should be ok i think.

Good to see there are a few others, it's my first organised cycling event so want to give it a good shot, may even wear the new PH jersey.
Typically average 15-17 mph on my commute into town so hopefully I'll give it a decent effort
I don't think many people do the L2B for a PB. Typically average 15-17 mph on my commute into town so hopefully I'll give it a decent effort

I'm on a 8am start. The entire team has dropped out, but I'm still doing it. Oddly enough, I think the cycle is going to be the easy bit. Its getting to the start line and getting home again, that will be difficult
I am doing the L2B but the week before to avoid the crowds and the fact that the event is on Father's Day and also the day after an England World Cup game. Hopefully as I am avoiding the 25k+ other bikes I should be able to get a decent time. I have never ridden 55 miles before but I don't see it will be a problem as I rode 40 miles last weekend and felt fine. I am riding 20miles at a little over 18mph so I am aiming for a sub 3.5 hours providing I don't get lost.
Just as an FYI, unless you need your card stamped at the start, you can bypass the start and leave whenever you want. It's a public road so you can't be controlled by the marshals at the start unless you want to be.
Doing this 3 years ago meant we actually left at 6.05 and at that time there were so few people on the road it only took us 3hrs and 10 mins to get to Brighton.
I don't do it any more as I think it's now so popular it's dangerous so stick to sportives.
Take care out there....

So you aren't doing the event then. bakerstreet said:

Well I am riding from London to Brighton for a Cystic thibrosis and male cancer charity but just with a group of maybe 20 people and doing it the week before. Not the actual BHF event but in memory of a close mate who died last year. okgo said:
Pack your bags bakersreet, you've won a guilt trip!
Not really. The original thread was for the BHF London to Brighton, but people always say similar things on L2B threads. IE. I'm not doing it, its far too busy, but I'm doing on another day. I applaud any efforts to raise money for the smaller charities and I hope curtail raises a decent amount of cash Cystic Fibrosis. Some of the larger charities have big amounts of cash.
Having done numerous charity challenges over the years, I find making them more and more challenging each year makes the money collecting/asking a bit easier. People want to see a decent challenge and ideally something bigger than the last one. Obviously the downside of that is you eventually run out of things to do
