I'm pretty close to getting a cx bike. It would be instead of a mtb and winter road bike but I have just been advised not to use it with Hamax child seat.

This is a big problem.

What are the thought of those on here?

What was the reasoning behind not using the child seat?

The Hamax has a bracket just below the seat post. On my mtb this isn't a problem as the tubing is pretty robust, but on a cross bike it might deform

This is what I was advised

With an aluminium CX bike that will absolutely not be a problem.
If you're worried, just use a 400mm seat post.

Scaremongering tts. CX bikes are always the answer.

Can't see any reason why a given cross bike would be weaker than a random MTB.
Specific model vs specific model sure, but as a generalisation I can't see it?

Who advised that?

I did think it a bit odd. The mtb is a specialized progressive series thing, cross bike likely Boardman

My CX bike with Hamax seat fitted. Alu frame.

I have a handful of KOM's with this bike and have also ridden the family trail in the Forest of Dean with Hamax + boy. If ever there was a do-it-all bike..............

Easton Haven rims have transformed it.
