Any 0% Finace Deals About?

I may get flamed by the "buy with cash" brigade on here but I don't care! :-)

For my 50th I'm treating myself to my first decent road bike.

I've owned commuters, hardtails, rigid MTBs, tourers but never a balls out 'racer'.

Its got board approval but I can't justify outlaying £1000-1300 in one go so thought about finance supplied by the bike shop.

Seem to remember that Evans used to do it but its now 9.9% APR so does anyone know of any decent shops/online that will do 0%?

Does your employer offer a Cycle to Work scheme?

If they do, that'll be interest free and tax free over 12 months.

Yes they do but its only available at the end of the year and I'm impatient!

I could wait and that will be the option if nothing turns up with this search.

Also its got pretty complicated now and I may be able to get a 2014 bike on offer in the next few months when the 2015 are being rolled out.

Fair point!

Ours used to be April only, until a few of us pointed out that this was arguably the worst time of the year to buy a bike if you're looking for a bargain in the sales. They subsequently changed it to let us get bikes at any time, and upped the limit to £3k at the same time!

Why not whack it on a 0% credit card and take advantage of the 2014 model sales?

Wheelbase do 0% though. I used them last year to ease the load on a Cento Uno frameset.

Ours is £2500 I think, up from the original £1000.
Still a good scheme, just wish they did it twice a year at least.
There are 5000 employees so it would be an adminstrative nightmare even if 5% took up the offer :-)

Now to decide on the bike if anyone can help.

Budget upto £1300
Carbon preferred but will take advice
105 or equivelent groupset
Used for decent distances eventually so needs to be comfortable (ish)
I won't have a fund to upgrade just replace as required so needs to be good straight out of the box.

Have a look at Bikeswanky, I think they do three ways to pay; cash, loans or 0%. Not sure if they do it on bikes under about £2k though.

I'm in a similar boat to you, without board approval! Would love to splash £1.5k-ish on a proper new speed machine, all my bikes have been ebay specials.

I'd be tempted to go for a more racy geometry myself; the differences aren't huge between most manufacturers ideas of racy v sportive, and unless you are doing several days of 100 miles each, will the comfort be that much more noticeable?

Planet X have a carbon bike with Ultegra for about a grand, might be an idea to benchmark against that.

Startled, I turned around to see that the 'devil' in question was actually the shop manager...

If you are going to start the inevitable 'what bike' thread, go away and do some research your self and maybe post up what you have found? However at your budget, the Pro Carbon is a safe bet.

Do try one out of you can, but I appreciate that's not easy with Planet X unless you are local to Rotherham and the local Planet X shop in the south don't let you ride the bikes.

Colleague has just ordered a Planet X.
I work in Sheffield so its just round the corner.
Planet X are on my list.
As you said better to do some research myself and come back with a list of potentials.
