The dreaded creaking from the bike ... solved.

An intermittent and very annoying creaking was being emitted from my bike ... it started about 6 weeks into ownership and went from mildly distracting to full on annoying. I had this on a previous Madone as did a mate on his Domane but I only ever temporarily got rid of it but this time and especially with a new bike, I wasn't going to be beaten.
The noise kind of echo'd through the frame and was during pedaling, so the bottom bracket came off, regreased and re-installed. Noise seemed to have been stopped ... but only for it to return 5 miles into a century ride. I then looked as swapping my rear wheel over as it was difficult to place the sound when riding. I was considering (for the first time ever) taking it to the shop but I was determined to find out.
I then took my trusty can of GT85 and squirted a small amount into the chainring bolts from the inside of the chainset and voila, the creaking has stopped. My thoughts are that the creaking has developed as the bike has been used and cleaned as clearly there is slight movement between chainset/chainrings/bolts.
As this was new to me, I thought it might benefit someone else who has a similarly annoying creak on their stead!

t bolts into the Buckinghamshire countryside. Two vanished into the undergrowth and the others were loose. Seems they were not tightened correctly from the factory. Uriel said:
Any noise like that and the first things I check are the QR skewers and then the chainring bolts. So many times they're the cause and things that are so often overlooked.
Same here ,but I had only fitted them up 5 miles earlier, when I put a new chainring on,so obviously I thought they were fine.I had a creak the last few rides on my boardman, under load only - fearing the BB30 bottom bracket i took the cranks off, and cleaned and greased everything. No change.
Wondered if my new SPD-SL pedals were fubar and saw that they were servicable if i bought a special tool. But first off i just put some old flat pedals on and the creak had gone! Was all set to order some carbon ultegra pedals to match the rest of the bike and then noticed one of the cleat bolts on my shoe was loose - that was the cause!
Gutted actually - i really wanted an excuse for the sexy new pedals!
