Managed my longest ride on the weekend which was 64 miles http://www.strava.com/activities/156693037 (sorry still chuffed so I've been telling everyone shows the slightest bit of interest).

I never wear gloves riding but towards the end of the ride my hands were becoming sore. I have some new lizard skin bar tape as I compete in triathlons so it's great for grip levels, certainly when wet. Is it worth me getting some gloves for longer rides or is it a case of mtfu? If gloves are the option of choice I'm open to recommendations type/brand etc?

Thanks in advance,
Kritter

What will be the first thing you do if you ever come off?
(Suspect it will be put your hands out)

I'd rather be able to pick grit out of my own legs, or wipe my own arse if I have an off and my hands could get cut up without wearing gloves..

In this weather mitts : just boggo spec jobbies. just be sure to try them on to ensure they fit!

It's like everything in life, you have to balance the predicted outputs of your actions.

Positive output: no tan lines/glove ovals
Negative output: having to ask your partner to do anything requiring fine motor control (cleaning teeth to more fundamental cleaning requirements etc etc)

Of course, if you never fall off, everything is fine.

I'm more comfortable in padded fingerless gloves, so that's what I ride in smile

They do a good job of removing the vibration from poor surfaces...

This exact thing, seen a number of guys come off with no gloves, and it always looks horrible! I only use cheap aldi gloves in the summer, but they do a job!

Some kid got crayon on your arm, best pop off and have a wash....

I always wear gloves, much more comfortable than bare hands, I got some new Assos ones recently which are great, really comfy and don't feel too warm in 30 degree sun either.

I've had Specialized BG ones for ages. Just bought some RH+ Nemo and rode a century with no tingly hands on Saturday.

Because I am basically a complete amateur at riding I wear a pair of Mechanix brand gloves designed for fixing cars, and working with impact tools, they are cool in summer, just right in winter, padded and very comfortable. I also find them to be very hard wearing. Cost me about £15 if I remember correctly.

I wear them because when I fall off I put my hands out !

In fact, I just did a quick ebay look and found them:

So either don't fall off and you'll be OK or wear some and get some wicked tan lines. Seems a good balance of branded and non branded gloves.

Cheers all.

The ideal cycling gloves would have branded holes in them so you could etch your cycling credentials into your tan lines...
