Big service or new bike

I am very much a recreational cyclist - most often out on the MTB with my kids. However, I do the occasional triathlon and like to get out on my road bike when I can - a Trek 1200 which is about 10 years old.
To my shame, the Trek has never been serviced. I also had a leaking garage roof a couple of years ago and, whilst still rideable, the components have seen better days after getting soaked for a couple of months.
So, to my dilemma. Would I be better off with a full refurb and service - I reckon this will be in the region of £250 as many parts will need to be replaced or am I better off buying a new bike? I would also add that I have never been particularly comfortable on the bike - I think it is a size too big for me, but I have just made do with it. Maybe a new bike would encourage me to get out on it more often?
And if I went for something new, how much would I need to spend to get a better bike than theTrek?
