Apollo feud vs rock rider 300 poverty mtb tips

Hi all
Rather than buy my 13 year old son something tatty or nicked off fleabay we said we would
Put some money to what he's saved up and get him a cheap mtb
I know this being ph I should be getting him a 2k norco but it's not going to happen.
It's not like the old days anymore where we looked after stuff. It'll be left outside and used for school etc so
He's getting a cheap one

So any recommendations on the above or 100 quid ish cheap mtbs

Apollos are all crap, end of. Decathlon will be better. A secondhand Carrera perhaps (still Halfords but ok)

I'd be wary that under £200 (or ideally £300) buys such a rubbish new bike that it might put the poor lad off for life, so keep an eye on ebay for a local bargin.

Honest we are under no illusions, itll be the latest three month wonder(shed ornament)
on ebay local ones are either really old or in bits id rather spend another £30 and get him a new one, rather than a knackered one

Ring round bike shops close to you and see what they have either in deals or used. Maybe it's not so popular these days, but lots of my bikes when I was a kid came used from LBS. I had rather a nice Bianchi when I was your sons age.

I was at Bedgebury at the weekend - the bike shop there had some used jobs that looked OK - I didn't look hard, mind, having just bought a new bike...

Keep an eye on ebay - I picked up a Carrera Kraken (Current model) on there for £160 in January. Needed a pair of tyres (Only ridden on the road prior to sale), and a new cassette. So for £200 I got a very decent bike - It won MBUK's 'Budget hardtail under £500' test last year. I've changed the crappy clarks brakes, but other than that, it'll see my good for a few years yet.

I've no idea if it'll fit, but that's a Medium and my now 14yo rides a Medium hardtail that I passed down to him.

Went to decathlon ended up buying the next one up from basic for £ 160

As I'm typing this now he's on strava lol with his mates
