Roadie Newbie

Looking for a road bike to cycle to work, but that can also be used to go out into the dales with some of my friends that have high end Bottecchia bikes. They're trying to get me to spend a fortune but I'd rather use a cycle to work scheme that can get me one for about £1k.

What do we think of this?

I know some of the components aren't 'top end', but am I right in thinking that they can be upgraded over time?

Also my employer runs the cycle to work through Halfords, and though I think you can go elsewhere I've heard it's a bit of a PITA, and the scheme closes next Friday.

I have recently bought one of these & it's very nice indeed, iff you join british cycling you will get 10% off of this bike as well as all halfords products,

I have bought a couple of bits & pieces from Planet X & they seem an impressive bunch, If i lived more northernly i would have had a look. But the Boardman is a nice bike.

Cheers. Yeah I've seen a few at other places too, but with the scheme being run through Halfords it comes out pretty cheap, and there's 10% off to so I can get some road pedals and clips (I run spds on my mtb but looking at some look keos).

Think I will go for it, just making sure no one comes along with a 'don't buy this bike, it's a nightmare' type thing
