Lightest SPD (yes, SPD. Not SL.) pedals for a road bike?
Discussion
Due to needing to walk about 500 yards against the one way system with my bike before a ride, I need to stay on SPD pedals for my new road bike. I did really want some Speedplays, but I'd not only need new shoes, but new cleats every couple of weeks by the sound of it.
So, what are the best/lightest SPD compatible pedals to go on my new fancy carbon road bike? Shall I just get the small XTRs?
It's going to have a nude carbon/green colour scheme, so bonus points if they match that! Thanks.

I have Ritchey Micro Pro v4 on my road bike which I think must be up there at a shade over 200g.
They use a very slightly modified SPD cleat that has a curved recess on the underside so your foot is placed closer to the axle. In practice this means a Ritchey cleat can clip into a Shimano pedal but not the other way around.

That also sounds do-able. As long as I don't have to buy new shoes, and they'll work on my MTB as well, sounds good. They use a very slightly modified SPD cleat that has a curved recess on the underside so your foot is placed closer to the axle. Do the pedals come with the cleats, like Shimanos tend to?
Egg beaters arent that light, they look it, but you take em off and they feel quite substantial. Then again all pedals under £50 feel about the same to me
I run them on my commuter and they are brilliant off road and in town, I did a weeks shopping last week with the shoes on, the cleat was covered by the grip on the MTB shoe.
I would go for egg beaters and have a poo before you ride/half fill your water bottle if you are that worried about weight
Just read the OP and realised Egg Beaters are not a valid option!

Before i went full SPD-SL on the road bike i used these pedals with my regular SPD shoes: Shimano A600

They arent as blue as they look in the pictures - actually just silver. Only SPD on one side. Fairly light.
I currently run A530s (single SPD side, flat shoe side on the other) on my hybrid, and M530s on my MTB and road bike - trying to get something way smaller and lighter for the new bike. I thought I'd go for the M520s as they're only £15, but also seem to be about a kilo each - crazy for such a small pedal!

i had these before going over to SPD-SLs

I would say the difference between nearly all SPD pedals (expensive Ti/Carbon down to cheapo ones) is only about 100g or so, not really anything to worry about IMO. Just go for whatever ones you like to use best.
The £15 Shimanos are 420g, according to Chain Reaction, and the £80 ones are 285g. Will I not notice the weight as it's the bit I'm moving the most on the bike?Have just seen these as well...

But it would involve changing the pedals on two other bikes, or changing the cleats every time I want to ride!
OK, the bike still isn't here (seriously, never order a bike from these guys, I wish I could name and shame...) but I've been told it will be "soon".
Thinking of getting these:

As per the recommendation for Ritchey further up, or just sticking with Shimano and going for these:

As they will both fit my MTB shoes and cleats. I do still really like the Speedplays, and they come in green which would match the bike, but unless they can do a recessed cleat, they're completely impractical.
So, does anyone know of a green SPD pedal at all?

Do these work with Shimano cleats?

Or at least, do they come with cleats that will fit a recessed SPD-style shoe?
