Bike Makeover

I'm after a bit of advice. I've dug out one of my old bikes from the old mans shed.

It's an old steel frame, the plan is to use this to be the new commuter/pub bike as better clearance for mudguards/rack, I had looked at Genesis Croix De Fer, although my man maths see this stack up as a cheaper option, and as it will look a bit st, easier to leave anywhere. After last winter, I see discs as the way forward, keeping the braking out the stty stuff, and a bit more tyre to deal with the potholes.

and move it over to Shimano 105. I can swap the 10 speed off the current road bike (giving that the new shiny 11 speed stuff) thus creating a bike I can use on the road and enabling other routes to work through local forests.

Any thoughts or improvements?

Surely you'd just get an AHEADSET headset and stem to go with your new forks? I assume the frame has a 1 1/8th friendly headtube?
