Cleaning your bike away from mains water.

As the nights are drawing in and the weathers turning, I have the tendency to get home after a ride at my local (or not so local) trail centre in the dark and whack the bike away dirty without a clean - fast forward to the next ride opportunity and the bike is not ready, caked in mud, rusty chain etc...

I know there are purpose made pressure washers on the market, but being fairly tight I was wondering if there were other options to give it a clean before heading away from the trails with hopefully a bit of daylight to see what your doing.

Anyone tried something like this?

I've got a similar one for weed killer and the pressure it produces isn't too bad, enough to clean a bike though, I don't know But with a bit off muck off and a brush may be a good option? Anyone else tried this?

Pertrol station jet wash on the way home.

That is how I clean mine at home, jet wash and bearings don't like each other.

Just take a brush and a bottle of muc off etc and scrub then rinse, I have a 5 litre one and that is more than enough to get it clean, just make sure you keep the pressure up.

I used a similar one of those sprayers for my motorbike and bicycle. I have to say that you need to be careful with what you get, as some of them can be quite poor power-wise and have a safety valve that opens far too soon. My current one I picked up from a motorcycle show at the NEC for £5 and its pretty good. It doesn't have a safety valve and you can get reasonable power. You wont shift serious dirt, but for rinsing off fresh light mud and grit, it works fine. I'd kill for a hose pipe though.

This is one of the best things I have ever bought. I don't have an outside tap and hated how long it took to clean a muddy MTB.

Garden sprayer filled with water and car shampoo along with a small brush and cloth and clean it best you can then oil the chain.
