Is there any interest in a PH Velodrome session at Newport on a Saturday or Sunday over the winter?

Cost would be about £15 per person (plus £10 for the bike hire) for a 3 hour session with a coach who can do some beginners drills and then maybe some faster paced training when everyone is comfortable on the track..... then we can all stop for a beer whilst Okgo smashes the hour record! wink

Maximum number is 16 on the track at a time but they can split a group of up to 30 so there is time for a breather between sessions.

I'm potentially interested - though will await the general standard who sign up as I can see me getting dropped.

And it won't be like the road, where I could quietly potter along wallowing in my own uselessness, you would come back round to taunt me....repeatedly.

Sounds interesting, would depend on dates, but keen to give it a go

Very interested! My club is looking to do sessions there as well but not until the middle of next year.

Up for this - can't do Sundays as a rule, though.

I wouldnt worry, the sessions can be tailored to whoever is coming and if there is a mixed bunch, the coach run through different drills accordingly which means no one gets bored and no one gets taunted!

For beginners, 3 hours is easily enough to learn how to ride safely in a group and move up and down the boards with some faster paced stuff at the end of the session. If there are more experienced riders there, then they can do some faster stuff from the beginning but usually the coach would get everyone doing the same thing for a while to gauge competence.

Having two groups also means you have a breather for a while because ten minutes on the track feels a lot worse than ten on the road!

Can I just say if you haven't been on the track before you just have to do it,
Its completely different than anything else you will have done on a bike before.
Absolutely fantastic fun.
I spent many years going to Manchester both competing and just going to training sessions and they cater for all standards.

Yes, potentially I am interested though I've never ridden on a track before.

Great idea for those who have never done track cycling. It's much tougher than you think and soon saps the strength from your legs. Hope the OP gets enough members here to take up the offer.

I'm off to the velodrome tomorrow for a few laps of the boards

Think it will be the Giant Omnium I take

although I do prefer the Ridley Oval but with my fracture still giving me a bit of pain it can get a tad uncomfortable dropping down so low

There isnt really a minimum number as you hire the track and a coach by the hour so more people just keeps the costs down a bit and makes for a more enjoyable session. I'd say we would need a minimum of 12 people to make two groups of 6 so there is time for a breather but enough people on track at one time to keep it interesting.
