Winter cycling gear for the larger chap.

Built like an Endomorph instead of a Wiggomorph I needs some winter gear as mine is fairly old and knackered, and I do sweat abit on the bike so cant be too warm under layer or I end up frozen from my own water.
Who does real sizes and not large that an average 12 year old is too big for, and what gear is good.

Base layers and jackets mainly, will prob get a couple of cheap jerseys to fit inbetween.

I find Wiggle's DHB stuff quite accomodating. While the s,m,l,l,xl,xxxl and so on sizing still has no relevance to a normal garment the physical measurements are at least vaguely accurate.

If you're happy to flaunt it, the Fat Lad at the Back range at Evans is generously cut.

I've not bought any yet, as it's all quite expensive, but looks to be good kit and seems to gaining a bit of a following.

I'm a big fan of merino base layers. I think places like mountain warehouse and so on do them for walking etc. Theyll be cheaper than cycling brands, and you can try them on.

For a winter jacket, I have an Altura high viz, which is reasonably generously cut, it fitted me fine at 125 kgs, but feels a bit baggy now at 95 kgs.

If you're looking spend a bit more, Rapha do a jersey trade down, so when you lose weight to a smaller size, you trade in for a half price Jersey. I think that's how it works.

90% of the XXL Altura stuff is actually XXL. Night Vision and Airstream jerseys are my preferred ones. The tights are good, but be careful of the padded ones as the padding is all to cock and I had to remove mine, hopefully they've got this sorted now as I bought mine last year

DHB stuff varies - XXL tights, undershorts and merino base layers are fine but the three XXL tops I've tried have been more like an L

XXL Helly Hensen base layers are also true to size

Aldi jackets and jerseys are really good fit and come with the added benefit of being 50-60% cheaper than any other brand

You'll find that a decent base layer (the HH ones are especially good) will wick the sweat away so less chance of you frozen from the inside out
