Has anyone taken part in any of these events? I'm tempted to dip my toe in with either the short of medium course for the Chilterns Wildwood event on 25th January.

I think they are fairly new. I am keen to do one of the events they are offering. However I have a baby due in the upcoming weeks, so there is no way that I can sign up for the chilterns one in Jan. The one in March is a possibility. I'm surprised that the UK Cycling Events team aren't putting on CX sportives.

I usually do a couple of the local MTB challenges on my cross bike as well.
The ultimate day out on a cross bike is the Three Peaks race in September, Benji would tell you about it, but he is too soft to have a go...

That doesn't look a bad tyre. At only 360g, its a decent weight. Some of the cheaper CX tyres are over 500g, which is a lot for a tyre. I chose the Continental Cyclocross Race Tyre. The bike came with Cyclocross Speedking tyres which were quite heavy and are similar to your Sammy Slicks, but less tread in the centre of the tyre. I wasn't too impressed with the puncture resistance when I used them for commuting. I switched them for 28mm Gatorskins purely for commuting. However, they can be a bit scry down a muddy canal path, so I've decided to give some knobbly tyres a go. Wifey is also going to buy me a set of chinese carbon clinchers for my birthday, so I can run separate wheels for road slicks and knobbly tyres

They did a large CX Sportive in the Lake District and Yorkshire last year. I think it was organised by the same people who are organising the ones posted by the OP. You should have signed up for that

To be honest, I've only recently(ish) bought the bike, and haven't been able to justify the expense of some decent tyres so far. Hopefully I will start earning soon and doing some races. My main priority was/is gravity enduro anyway, if/when I can afford to race.samj2014 said:

Should hurt a bit.
I'm really interested in these CX Sportives - it seems to reflect the kind of riding I used to do on my hardtail MTB when I first moved to Surrey - just go and explore, a bit off-road, a bit on-road etc. Except with the Sportive, someone who knows the area better than me has planned the route and I don't need to keep referring to a muddy, damp, crumpled OS map!
Now, many years later..... the MTB was stolen and I have a CX-type bike that's been used for commuting and road rides (with road tyres). But I've just ordered a new road bike and still have the CX tyree, so back to CX-spec it goes.....
Hopefully I'll get out on a CX Sportive on 25 Jan (Chilterns or Newbury) or on the Evans Gatwick event on 15 Feb.

I was very interested in that but looks like it's only for you cool kids with CX bikes (or at least rigid bikes with <= 1.5" tyres). I'll have to save being embarrassed on my XC MTB for another day.SixPotBelly said:

Me too. Until I saw this bit • This is a CX challenge for bikes that meet the CX ethos (rules for qualifying bikes - no suspension, 40mm / 1.5 inch tyres maximum)
All their other CX Sportives say anything goes. Maybe I'm misinterpreting something and there's no restriction on this either.
