Garmin Edge 810 vs Mio Cyclo 315/505

I'm leaning towards the Mio Cyclo of some flavour mostly due to the 'Surprise Me' function which I think is a good idea and I could see myself using it a lot.

Any PH/PPers concur or will I be making the wrong decision? Has the Garmin anything to tempt me instead?

Only buy the garmin if you have a great desire to participate in the ongoing beta programme.

TBT does not work, although it works fine on the 800 or 1000.

I've had my 810 for a few months now and apart from one crash mid ride (the unit continued on recording when it restarted) I haven't had one single issue with it. I know it has a terrible reputation, and my heart sunk when I looked at the Garmin forum after I purchased my unit, but I can honestly say that everything works exactly as it should for me. I get true TBT, and have done since the day I got it. I really can't fault the unit.

It looks like you are in the minority. Mine has never worked properly since I bought it. If is starts TBT, it never finishes. When it does start TBT, it will fail and end up telling me that I need to make a u turn, despite the planned route being clearly shown in the screen.

Thank you chaps. I'm still leaning towards the Mio (found the 505 on sale at a vendor in Ze Fatherland for £311 delivered) but somthing is still niggling in the back of my mind whether I need to go down this route. I could hopefully find a mount for my Android mobile and use an app on that, perhaps.

Is £311 just for the base unit or does it include sensors ? Halfords currently have the 505 base unit for £269 plus a potential further 10% off if you are a member of British Cycling:

The 505 is certainly a very capable unit and there's pros and cons between the Mio and any of the comparable Garmins.

Some interesting prices on that website you've linked - a garmin edge 1000 with speed/cadence sensors, HR strap and a selection of mounts for £350 looks like a very good price. Without wishing to add to your dilema !
