Ribble 525 steel frame

Hi, has any got any first had experience of the a Ribble 525 steel frame, as reviews on the web seem pretty thin on the ground?

I am thinking of splitting my 2013 Giant Defy 2, in medium, selling the frame set, and building the steel Ribble, good idea or bad? Also any thoughts as to the value of the Giant frame, which is in good condition, with original FSA cranks/Tektro brakes?

I guess it depends on what you want the bike for. A Defy frame will be more racey than a bog standard 525 steel frame; but if its for commuting/winter training rides, then the 525 would probably do the job a bit better.

Not in to racing, just like the look of the frame, and I have been riding my steel Charge plug and like the feel of the steel!

A quick look at eBay will give you a price guide however you'll also notice that it's flooded with frames and no bids. So £200 is probably a realistic selling price.

Does the Giant have a BB30 bottom bracket shell? The Ribble is BSA, so you may need new cranks. Seatpost too. and maybe stem, depending upon the taper of the steerer on the Giant.

I wouldn't, personally: it'll be more weight, maybe a bit more flex...meh, no real gain. And I say as as someone who rides a (steel) Genesis Equilibrium.

Thanks, the Giant is BSA bottom bracket, and would sell as a frame/fork/seat post, and had factored in the new components.
