Purchased loads of bikes on Ebay in the past and got some great deals, including 2 x current bikes, but I'm well aware of the timewaster sellers and buyers, but not sure on this deal. I always factor in they might need a bit of work and sellers lie...
Won an auction on Sunday for a new (to me) bike, was quite a good deal , not bargain of the century, but I am happy with the price. I would imagine the seller probably wanted more, but it wasn't really a hotly contested auction.
Seller has been helpful , answered all my questions , they have advised there is a slight "creak" since the auction ended. I would imagine its as the bike has been standing for six months , or BB creak, either way I will check it before purchasing.
The only issue is that the bike is pickup only and is 180 miles each way from my house. I'm happy with this, was planning on it taking 3 hours each way if I leave mega early and around £50 in petrol. I can also stop and see some family who are kind of on the way.
I straightaway said I would pick the bike up on this Saturday @ 9am and I will be there for then
BUT, since the end of the auction has ended I have found the seller, has advertised the bike on 2 classified sites for +£200 of what the auction ended at. I'm half tempted to tell the seller to stuff it, as I don't fancy wasting driving near 400 miles for a time waster , or to get there for them to say it is +£200 for what the auction ended at. Which someone tried on me before for a painting on Ebay.
I'm not too bothered either way and I appreciate that first person there buys second hand stuff, I just don't fancy a very long drive for a piss taker
Any thoughts?

"IF" they are that stupid ebay will find in your favour, they heavily IMO favour buyers over sellers.Where is it, perhaps a PH local could go collect it after you pay by PayPal and you could pick it up from them? To avoid any last minute "well I'd like another £200 mister" nonsense- after all- he/she has no idea who you are :-)
Pay by Paypal and lock him into selling it to you, no reason to do Cash on Collection unless you're buying skunk or stolen goods in 2015 :-)
I sold a van on ebay last month, £1500 over Paypal and the guy turned up 2 days later to collect, didn't even kick the tyres just paid his road tax on the phone and drove off.
Cash on Collection is a PITA as you have to go get cash out- who carries cash anymore? ;-)

Cheers guys, if only it was in Bath/Brizzle as that's only 45 mins away from me
In regards to Paypal, I know I would probably get it back, but I wouldn't want the wait for it to be refunded should there be issues. Plus when I see the bike if it is grossly different from pics/description I can walk away.
Think I will see if She (!) posts the bike on gumtree/trade it again, if so I will just take a screenshot and tell them I'm not interested as they are obviously timewasters.
If no further ads I'll text them before I leave to confirm price and pickup. Its an odd one, as you kind of expect idiots with Ebay, but this seller was very helpful and answered all questions correctly and politely , with good photos/description of the bike
On another note I'm amazed how many people sell £800+ bike with no mention of the size and one sentence descriptions!

This happened to my brother in law. Found a genesis bike on ebay and won the auction. The price was good, but not silly cheap, there were competing bidders. Once the auction was over there was absolutely no communication from the seller at all, completely ignored the winning bidder.
Brother in law paid as is habitual really I think immediately after the auction by paypal. We noticed the bike pop up on gumtree then at a price above the winning bid.
Ebay weren't all that interested - just said they'd refund the paypal but ultimately couldn't force the seller to honour the auction end price. Vendor had little feedback so the ebay account wasn't valuable to him.
Conversely... I bought a giant mountain bike on ebay for my wife. There were no competing bids and I felt bad collecting it for £26 - the petrol I used to collect it cost me more I reckon. The vendor was very civil and helpful. It wasn't a high spec machine, step-through frame and a few years old, but barely used and would have cost a fair amount to buy new.
- question... would you ever offer a vendor more money if you felt you were getting an unfairly good deal?

Thought I would update, texted the seller Friday to confirm, she said all still on.
On the road 6am Saturday morning setting off from Swindon to Mexborough Yorkshire, managed to turn up at sellers house dead on time @ 9am
Seller was there, very friendly. Bike was just as described and was in better condition than the photos on ebay. Seller also threw in some decent tools, 2 x spare cassettes with different ratios and 3 x spare tubes. Also seller had all original documentation and manuals, which they didn't mention in ad. Plus the bike had pretty decent nearly new Scwabe Ultremeo tyres, which weren't in the ad. Seller didn't even count the cash as she said she trusted me!
Back on the road, back home by 12:30. Was a pretty easy drive , easier than the afternoon spent taxing teenagers to the cinema and feeding a hyperactive baby!
I guess my assumptions about them being greedy were wrong & the seller was lovely, I think I got a good deal: A 2 year old hardly ridden Wilier Izoard XP with upgraded American Classic Wheels for £600 all in great condition and very clean.
Cheers for the advice and offers of help
