Dog Carrying baskets for bikes

Can anyone offer me some advice of where I may buy a cycle basket which can be used for carrying a dog, the animal in question is a Minature wire haired daschound, weighs 7kgs.

Any help/advice much appreciated.

I have two mini dachshunds and would love to cycle places with them.in a basket, but haven't done so due to safety reasons as well as not seeing a suitable basket, watching this thread with interest! Don't know how the dogs would enjoy it.

When we were on Sark we hired some bikes to get around. We had a dog and a couple of puppies that weren't trained or capable of making it the whole way round. All the bikes we hired had shopping baskets but we ended up getting one with something like this attached so they couldn't fall out. It also had a door so they couldn't flee through a hedge.

I've seen a few people with dogs in handlebar mounted baskets with a mesh dome over the top to keep them in. I guess this only works if you have a pointlessly small dog though, I don't think I'd want to ride around with a Springer Spaniel attached to my bars.

Quite. The ears flapping about in the wind would be very distracting.

I bet there are plenty of options for this in Dutch bike shops.
