I am looking for a new bike and considering both new and used options. I just wondered if I needed to be aware of outstanding finance on a second hand bike? I assume that bikes are pretty much untraceable so there is little risk as the purchaser but just wanted to be sure?

Most bike finance doesn't work like that. There's a tiny chance it might be leased, but extremely unlikely.

When you say untraceable, you mean to the extent that registering the VRM as yours with DVLA opens up the high probability that DVLA will happily sell that information to the finance company? Or do you mean you can hide the bike upstairs? biggrin

haha more along the lines of not having a registered keeper etc.

So the finance is not secured against the bike itself?
