I need a new chainring for a chainset that's been out of production for a few years (Tiagra 4400 Triple).

The only time I've replaced a chainring before I've bought a like for like replacement - but since this chainset is now getting on a bit I can't find one.

I'm not sure to what extent chainrings are intechangable like chains and cassettes - or whether I need a chainring specific to my chainset.

Am I right in assuming that any chainring I buy that has the correct number of teeth (42T), the right BCD (130mm but not sure) and the right number of bolt holes (5) and is compatible with a 9 speed drivetrain will work ?

You are right in assuming all that.

Try and get a specific triple chainring, most chainrings available do not have the shift pins, or drop a few teeth and get this from Chain Reaction.

Thanks. I'm finding my current gearing a bit high anyway - so the Sora 39T will be ideal.
