What bike for a small 8year old.

My lads birthday in couple of weeks, he will be eight.At the moment he's got a bike from Decathlon and it needs upgrading. He's quite a short lad so looking for a 20"whee,l contenders so far are.

Are these any good? i can throw maybe £300-£600 at it.Wanting lights and bag for spare parts as well so suggestions please.\

My son is also a small 8 year old. We got him a Dawes Academy 20" wheel -£300 - mainly because it was a lot lighter than most other bikes aimed at kids. He loves it and it has proved very robust. In fact, he has enjoyed riding it so much that it seems to have created a real interest in cycling - he saved up his pocket money and birthday money until he could get a road bike as well (Frog Road 58)!

At his age, the most important factor was the weight of the bike - too many of the bikes we saw were so heavy it was ridiculous.

i got my son a Felt Q20s and its a great bit of kit. The mega range gears mean he gets up nearly everything.
Its got really well finished off components - just little things like protector on cables etc and an aluminium frame.
The front suspension actually works too.
There seem to be a few about for £225 which is about what wiggle want for the non suspension vrsion.
