Afternoon everyone

I've just availed myself if a specialized allez. Very nice too and as I a bit of s clean line keep it simple freak I'm looking dispondantly at my iPhone strava wahoo setup from my tricrross. Simply put I don't want a hulking iPhone on the bars and equally want the battery on the phone to be preserved for.... Making phone calls

That said. I love the thought of a speed readout and love the connectivity of strava and appropriate sensors. I love the ability to record progress over time and Mao routs.

I have a wahoo sensor with cadence which I could move to the new bike. Question is then .... What to do ? Over to yiu the assemblled experts

Wahoo RFLKT?

I've got a RFLKT +, which does ANT+ as well, and while it does drain the battery somewhat (as it still uses the iPhone for GPS and as a hub to connect the devices to), it's far less than having the phone screen on the whole time.

I use a Garmin Edge 510, so far it's been a good little device. It seems to play well with the duo trap cadence and speed sensor on my Trek Domane. I'm looking to add a chest strap into the mix soon.

Courses (pre planned) rides can be loaded onto the device and it'll give basic navigation. The 800 series and 1000 series both offer full navigation capability.

Battery life is around 20hours use which I haven't got near too, but after a 7 hour or so ride it was still on 60% so I guess the quoted figure is about right.

I too have an Allez (great first road bike) and have clocked up nearly 500 miles this year, I have recently bought an Edge 1000 bundle. Comes with cadence and speed sensors links to your phone lets you read texts and view weather and auto uploads to Strava. In short a nice bit of kit (although a bit big).

That mount looks good, is it alloy? I went for the Garmin out front mount which is plastic and I notice a little bit of flex in it when going over rougher ground which makes me nervous of the device flying off!

It's a K-Edge XL, they do a standard size too but the 1000 is too big for it. It's expensive but worth the money IMO.

Edge 1000 is awesome and size is spot on IMO particularly if you want to use it for navigation.

If you are not interested in full on navigation then the 510 is ideal.

The latest software updates on the 510 and 810 mean they also have segments available (previously just the 1000) which enable you to monitor your performance against your PB or segment leader in real time.

Google DC Rainmaker and check out his site for some seriously in depth reviews of cycle GPS + plenty of other cycle, run, swim tech.

Have a surf on youtube to check out many of the leading cycle GPS (Garmin Edge 200, 500, 510, 800, 810, Touring, 1000, Polar V650, Bryton Rider series, Mio Cyclo 105, 305, 505 etc)- you might even find the odd demo of mine on there (I love a good gadget).

The Garmin Out Front mount is fine: three trips to Flanders with mine and generally hitting potholes like the ignorant ape that I am without su much as a wobble.

Before you press the button for the 510, check out the 810. I just paid £265 for the performance bundle from bikediscount.de, awesome value. Add the free openstreet maps and you have a superb system.

YES you do need the maps. You can download the maps yourself or you can pay to get them. either way you will need to get them.

I'm pretty much an I T DUMMY but even i got there in the end. The 810 gives you weather updates to save you looking up at the sky & it links up with your smart phone but when i was looking the 810 seemed to be getting certain glitches that the 800 wasn't getting.

If you buy the 510 i'm sure in a few months time you'll wish you went for the 800/810 as i did.


If you can stretch to the 810 @ £285.00 on that Amazon link then do it, all done & dusted sir.
