I can recommend BTwin at this price point. Check at this model:

Also check ebay/gumtree for second hand Islabikes. They'll keep their value well, so if you then sell it you won't lose much.
Decathlon are probably the best choice at that price point. Depending on how tall he is, these two are good options and the Saracen looks ace.

Was in a similar position to you a year ago, got my son a Specialised Allez off EBay. It had hardly been ridden (and if I'm honest I should make more time to drag him out on it) so it was as good as new. I know if him or I decide it isn't worth keeping it will be easy to sell and I'll get a good chunk back of what I paid for it.
