CX - Ridley X-Bow 10 Disc or Giant revolt 1?

Evening,

My work has a cycle to work scheme with cyclescheme, and I'm looking for a commuting bike up to £1k pedals don't need to be included.

Currently I have a Giant Anthem X29er for off-road duties and after long thoughts I think a cyclocross bike will be more suited to my needs than an all out road bike.

So this evening I popped into my 2 local bike shops who both stock different brands but a lot of variety. Shop 1, who I normally consider to be the expensive shop were very helpful after saying its for the commute with weekend gravel paths and occasional off road, took me through all the bikes then said but I think the Giant revolvt 1 will better suit your needs as less racy frame. http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-gb/bikes/model/re...

Shop 2 my preferred shop having used them in the past, Instantly said the Ridley X-Bow 10 was the best bike for the money and even though it was on discount they would honour it which is not the norm I believe. http://www.ridley-bikes.com/gb/en/bikes/4/224/137/...

So are they just trying to shift stock or should I go for it? Personally I prefer the chainset on the Ridley but both are dull in the style department why is black the cool colour at the moment??

And of course am I missing any other bikes in that price range?

I was looking at the croix in the second shop but it's heavy although a lot better looking than everything else on the market

My neighbour just picked up one of these today and it's gorgeous.

The Ridley is a very nice bike, but more of a race bike, if you want similar from Giant the TCX is more the item than the revolt.

Personally would buy the Ridley, but I'm partial to a bit of cross racing, go on try it you might just like it.

The spec for the money is brilliant, think I'd prefer the racy set up in case I go for a ride with my mate whilst he's on his road bike.

It won't be that quick I'm afraid. I'm popping down Saturday to size up as I'm between L and XL although Ridley says I should be on an XL it felt comfortable on the L but I was in office gear so cycling down Saturday and trying both out before submitting a cyclescheme voucher so how ever long that process then takes but I'd hope in the next couple of weeks if all goes well.

I've got a Ridley X Bow albeit with cantilever brakes

A proper race bike (cross)
Very well specced for the price

Could do the job as a commuter or winter bike

Managed to get down today to the shop get my quote and submit my voucher request so now just the wait from HR hopefully next week.

Just an update on this. HR have given the thumps up so just awaiting my certificate so hopefully I should have the bike by the weekend.
