Went out yesterday and something happened to me that only happened to other people. First time in 22 years of mountain biking. Rear mech/round backwards/spokes/bang. Wrecked the lot, snapped my chain and bent the drop out on my lovely steel hardtail.

I can probably replace the lot (full drive train and wheel) and straighten out the drop out OR jump into the world of 650Bs and 29ers. Replacement of said parts will be a few hundred I`m guessing but I`m tempted by a new ride.

Where would best online deals lie? Hard tail it is.

So much for `breakaway` bolts. frown

650b

Chain reactions Vitus brand is good. Planet X 45650b, also a good option, build yourself to get exactly what you want?

Yes, I have built a lot of my bikes over the years but fancy a hassle free off the shelf option. i`ll probably change some of it anyway. Mostly XC riding now as I`m late 40s and injuries take a while to heal and my job comes first. My North Shore and and DH days are 10 plus years past.

I think I`ll hire a 29er to see what they`re all about. I was looking for an independent fabrication XC frame or maybe a FAT but rocking horse poop here. Merlin would be nice as I`ve never had one but again, hard to come by. I`m not competitive anymore so another 26er would do and apparently there`s good deals on them as they aren`t `in`.
