I cycled to work this week, 3 times, total 33 miles, fking hell I've been hungry all week. Can't stop eating.

Next week I'm going for the full 5 days.

33 miles a day, or 33 miles total?

Either way, are you drinking enough? When your dehydrated it can make you feel hungry when you are actually thirsty. It's been warm this week and cycling will just make it worse.

I think it is more physiological tbh. As the poster above said, try drinking more.

Keep a close check on the food intake, 33 miles isn't going to burn many calories

I found when I was losing weight that I was quite the opposite, in that I would find myself assessing the calories in food and drink and working out how far I had to cycle to burn it off, or perhaps working out how much good work that extra pint would undo. I am ashamed to say I poured a lot of good beer down the kitchen sink because my will-power to lose weight was stronger than my desire to drink it!

33 miles total. Not much by mamil standards but a lot for me.

I drink loads, no air con in office (near poverty), so very stuffy, drink many litres a day.

Same here, if I commute my appetite goes through the roof, only 20 miles a day 4 days a week, on a heavy bike, with a heavy bag/panniers at a good speed with a steep hill and lumpy roads.

I end up spending as much on food as petrol!

According to Strava the commute equates to about 1200 extra calories a day, which tally's with how I each st loads extra but are still losing every bit of fat on my body. I get mega food and suger cravings as well.

Often wondered about Strava's calories. Assumed it was for a road bike on tarmac?

My typical mtb ride of about 25-30 miles with 2,000ft ft of climbing only nets me 1,600 calories or so. On a FS mtb with some severely inefficient nobblies on - I'm sure that's worth at least an extra slice of pizza!

That's a single round trip for me smile Enjoy it while you can, your body will soon become more efficient and you won't need quite so much...

It varies it on what bike you specify in equipment, I think it even gives tyre options . If I list the ride as being on my road bike it usually lists it as say 400 calories, if on my rigid MTB with slicks it lists it as say 600 calories, the second bike is listed as 13 pounds or so heavier.

I don't treat any of the Strava stats as gospel. But judging by the extra calories I need and still seem to slightly lose weight they are roughly right.

Plus everyone is different, I am quite lucky in that I burn off fat very quickly , but also put it on very quickly. I could easily lose a stone in a fortnight if needed!

Try some High5 electrolyte tablets in your drink's bottle to make sure you aren't getting low on salt. Have a banana or two to fill you up without putting on weight.

33 miles in a week isn't a huge amount. That's probably 2-3 hours riding for most people.

Fat people often can, without any visible change.

A bit.

I can now cycle up the Itchen Bridge in the mornings in 2nd gear. Still in first on the way home mind. It is getting easier.

Easy to overeat after you start cycling. I use rule of thumb of burning 500cal/hr of good effort (on or off road), = 2 'free' recovery pints in the pub wink.

At least it takes a bike ride to make you feel hungry. I just feel like that all the time.

I like this!

I've stopped raiding the sandwich van for extra pastry based items each morning, that's a habit broken that will do me some good. Leaving my wallet at home helps!

Along with the increased cycling, I've cut out all the cake/biscuit/sweets/ice cream/dessert rubbish and cut out 90% of the rice/pasta/bread and the mashed potato Himalayas* are a thing of the past.

  • I'll miss the mashed potato mountains. Bad times.

So... What are you eating now? 10% of what remains?
