Bubble in the 'classic' bike bits market

Looking at ebay recently, I have been surprised at the prices that late 80s and 90s bike gear has been selling for

Prompted me to have a dig round to see what I have got that could be sold

Not much that I want to get rid of at any price (hoarder!)

But I put a few pairs of wheels up and two pairs have attracted bids already that are nearly at the high end of my expectations

If you some old gear in the shed that isn't going to get used, now might be the time to move it on - could this be a similar bubble to the one in classic cars ???

Retro events like L'eroica are pushing up prices of eligible kit, think Goodwood Revival for pedal bikes... also peopel like us can now afford the bikes we lusted after when we were teens so buy them for far more than they are worth. If I ever found an original early 90s Kona Hei hei for sale I'd be in lots of toruble with mrspablo

Having been kicking around the idea of flogging my early '90s Condor 653 Dura Ace bike - haven't used it in anger for 10-15 years.
Where's best to advertise?

It has been this way for a year or two. I sold an old pantographed seat post for over EUR 200 last year. It was a nice old part -- but not that nice.

If you have nice stuff lying around, I'd actually continue to wait. Doubt prices for the quality stuff will be coming down much, if at all in the coming years (likely only for Campy and Suntour tho).

I would say a decent 10 day auction listing ending around 2100 on ebay - with good pictures - is about as good as it gets.

No harm in trying some of the Facebook groups if you use it, or some of the other cycling forums, but I think eBay gets a decent audience

Ebay for frames, offer postage at a reasonable cost, the stuff just flys out the door.

Putting Eroica Fixie Singlespeed in the title helps too.

OK, so that is 3 sets of wheels on their way to new owners

And 1 of the 2 brand new unopened Campag Record 8 Speed cassettes that were found lurking on a shelf too!

Now I am ready to list the "big one" my very first 'good' road bike. It took me a long time to save up for it back then and it was a beauty of its day (531, Campag Record with delta brakes and ergo levers, Open Ceramic rims). I did a good few miles with some fantastic club mates on it.

Let's see if such things are worth anything still. I know the record delta brake calipers are sought after, so fingers crossed!

Good luck with your sales! I have been looking at it from the other direction so to speak, as a teenager in the early 70's there wasn't much money about (3 day week and all the country on strike) so we felt lucky to have anything with 2 wheels and you were posh if you had a bike with a 3 speed Sturmey Archer! A friend of mine , however, had a beautiful Claud Butler racing bike, I can still picture it today! It was the first bike I ever saw with a 'double clanger' 10 speed amazing!!! I'd love to find one but the prices! WOW

Interesting. I use an old Holdsworth for a winter bike. Didn't think it was worth anything hence using it as a beater in all weather.
