Wheel upgrade from Aksiums

Looking to upgrade my Magic Aksiums on my Supersix. I'm not a heavy rider at around 76kg but do find I can get the rims to flex particularly when climbing. They're not the lightest wheels either.

I did have a pair of Ksyrium Elites which I ended selling for what I paid for them because I couldn't justify the £300 at the time. Having looked at these again, I saw a couple of alternatives which at £200 seem to get good reviews and look like an upgrade over the Aksiums

First are the Cero AR24s from Cycle Division

Cycling Weekly and Road.cc have given these wheels top marks and at a shade over 1500g are a couple of hundred grand lighter than the Aksiums. Comparable weights with the Ksyrium Elites


Secondly a set from Superstar Components

Under 1500g with some impressive reviews.

Anyone got a set? Both British companies so not just a no brand Chinese eBay pair

Good to see some UK companies making wheels even if some of the components are imported.

Hmm, which model Akisum when I looked at the base model a few years ago the cheapest Akisum was £200, so about the same price point as the wheels you are looking at. Therefore you wont see much difference, I'd also be a bit wary about chasing a low weight at that price point, as you wont get performance/durability & low weight for £200, well you might but I'd favour durability over saving a few grams.

If it was me id go up to near £300 and get some Zondas. I've seem several people recommend the wheels you suggest, they just haven't had them for a long time yet though, so only initial opinions


I know what you mean about flex though, all the wheels that came with my bikes suffered, although even upgradeing to Fulcrum 5s which are similar to Akisums eliminated it. Is there any sideways play in the rear wheel?

I just upgraded from a set of Aksiums to RS81s, and am really happy with them. For the price they're a good weight (1502g), roll very smoothly and give a comfortable ride while maintaining a good level of stiffness.
Can definitely feel the difference both climbing and tapping along - it just feels like it takes less effort to maintain a higher pace.

I ordered a set of Elite 38 from Superstar Components a few months ago, they often have discount codes online for 20% off so I only paid £160ish. Overall very happy with the build quality of the wheels, got a lot of punctures in the first few weeks but changed the rim tape and haven't had a problem since (it was very thin).

The advertised weight was also pretty much spot on.

There's no sideways play in the hub although the rear is slightly out of true. They're the 2012 wheels so 3 years and a few thousand miles is fairly decent.

I'm not a fan of the spoke design on the Campags, that rear wheel is a bit Marmite. The RS81s are nice but I don't really want to shell out £300.

If its not an upgrade I'll probably just keep the Aksiums.
