Dislocated collar bone
Discussion
I had the unfortunate incident of coming around a corner at speed and hitting a scaffold pipe in the road and coming off. Apart from losing a lot of skin etc my collar bone has popped at the end and will take 8 weeks to mend. Helmet cracked and split but we wont mention that too much here.
Question, what exercises can I do to keep some level of leg fitness? anyone on here got any tips? can i get back on the turbo trainer sitting up?
Also how much fitness will be lost over the 8 weeks and how quickly will I get it back?
Thanks

Depending on badly damaged the ligaments and tendons are you may find it doesn't fully recover.
I did mine 2 years ago, not through, and it's never gone back into place, it's still dislocated. I can manipulate it into the right place but it moves out again as soon as I move it. Doesn't bother me though, feels a little less stable when lifting heavy things and can be a bit awkward to sleep on or prop myself up on that elbow but otherwise no problems.
I was running and cycling properly again after about 6 weeks. Most of that was in a sling though. Once out the sling the doctor said I wouldn't do any further damage so it was just a case of if I could cope with the pain then carry on.

Broke my collarbone earlier in the year, was able to get back on the turbo the day after just to keep the legs spinning, mine was a clean break at the end of the collarbone so yours could well be worse. I flipped the bars up a bit so that the drops sat higher to allow me something to balance on without leaning as far forward.
The main problem I had was keeping the arm steady when using the turbo but found that tucking the sling under my bibshort shoulder straps stopped it moving too much.
I was back on the bike 2 weeks after but that was for a steady ride that I needed to be on, I was back riding properly within 4 weeks.

I subluxed my collarbone a couple of years ago, it still sticks up about a centimetre higher than the other one but makes absolutely no functional difference any more. While I did tentatively get back out on the bike within three weeks I thought I was better off running (slowly and carefully), as another spill could have been very, very bad.
