One of my good pals is looking to buy a carbon bike from Planet x being a pair of southern shandy drinking softies we haven't been to any of the Planet X shops.

We have kind of arranged a road trip mid August to hopefully go to Sheffield & buy one & just have a boy's day out. Looking at the street view the sheffield shop seems to be on an industrial site , is this the right place is this just a warehouse ? Obviously we are going to do this all in a day with i guess 3 hours driving each way, we can't really afford to waste too much time fannying around. Poor chap is having the Snip on the next day so he won't be able to ride the damn thing i guess for a fortnight anyway.

As usual nay advice muchly appreciated from my northern based PH chums. biggrin

Phone em to see what they have in stock to test/view, would be st to go that way for nothing

Look out for the deals and discounts , back in Feb I almost pulled the trigger on a Campag Pro Carbon for under £650 new

Look on ebay as well, loads of people buy them, ride them twice stick in the garage then sell, although due to the discounting some people were selling their bikes for more than you could get them new! But some were local so I could view the bike and decide if they were for me

It's the right place - the showroom and the warehouse are about 200 yards apart.

You wont be able to buy one and take it away on the day I don't think, everything is made to order. I tried to do that with mine when I got it. Good shop tho, loads of bits there to look at, they also don't have mechanics in to build bikes at the weekend.

Cheers all, i don't think we had any intention of bringing it back, we just want to have a look & generally be nosey .
As i said he won't be riding for a few weeks anyway so a few weeks delivery would suit.

There is a Planet X dealer called Triathlon Zone in St. Albans. Junction 22 of the M25 I think. Got my bike from there.

Guy who runs it is very knowledgeable and will do bike fit for you too.

You will certainly get to see the bike range in the Sheffield shop, and quite a bit more, but don't expect the full range of gear that can get on their website - a lot of stuff is at the web fulfilment warehouse in Barnsley.

I had a flat in the nineties 100 yards from where that shop is. Which isn't relevant.

But co-incidentally I'm going to St Albans on Tuesday morning, which might be. I'll pop in if you like and see what they have on display.

Other advantage of using the shop in St. Albans is the shop is you have someone else dealing with Planet X for. I've only bought three things from Planet X and they have made a mess of every order. I like their bikes, but their customer service is a joke.
