Dorking

I'm heading down to Surrey in a couple of weekends' time and I could do with getting my head kicked in on a decent fast group ride on Sunday morning. I'll be about 10 miles south of Dorking.

Any suggestions for rides in that area where I could show up?

The next big town south of Dorking is Horsham, I am sure there are clubs and maybe shop rides from both Dorking and Horsham.

Bike Beans in Ashtead usually have 3 or 4 different group rides on a Sunday morning:

Rides are usually posted on that Facebook page on Saturday evening, but you could expect:

Advanced - 17mph
Intermediate - 14-15mph
Developers - suitable for all

All welcome, friendly, no w*nky club kit rules etc.

lol - slow down from what? They're pedal bikes, most people are so far below the speed limit it would never be an issue. Unlike the tits on motorbikes and cars all around Surrey. Don't be a NIMBY.

OP - I would avoid BH, its pretty dull as a climb and is busy with cars and other bikes, head out east from where you are, much more pleasant, most of the rides above would be a fair ride to get to startpoint before the actual ride!

Much hated in the locality for hurtling through the villages at full pelt and not stopping for anything.

A bike at 40mph is far more dangerous than a car purely because you can't hear it coming.

I'd say the person stepping out into the road without looking is the one causing the danger in that example. Lord help the people in your village when electric cars become the norm...

PS, I always take my rubbish home with me though :-)

I think the biggest danger these days are pedestrians too busy looking at their smartphones when crossing the road.

Agree about BH too, Bloody dull & dreary .

No bike has ever gone 40mph through the village. Very few have ever gone over 25 through the village, you have no idea what you're talking about.

I think generally bad press in Richmond Park is usually Dynamo related. But as with any group of 600+ people, not all will be as thoughtful as others.

Most of those on the first page are also riders who took part in the closed road professional race, so they were only just quicker than 30mph despite closed roads and a huge bunch, but of course its the cyclists that need to slow down through the village not the cars - total blinkered nimbyism.
