Has anyone on here got a Canyon - sizing question

I am spending many evenings at the moment looking at the Aeroad CF SLX 6.0 and the Ultimate CF SL 9.0 Aero.

They look stunning value and look....well, stunning!

As I'm sure for most buyers of Canyons though, I am nervous at spending £2500 on a bike I haven't sat on. I'm equally nervous as my current bike has quite relaxed geometry (Giant Defy 1) but I do want a more aggressive position for any future bike.

Does anyone have one and how did you decide on the size?

Provided I get something that fits my body size, should a bike fit be able to refine the fit to suit my riding style, even if it means getting a new shorter or longer stem. I'd be using the bike for low level TTing, summer rides, sportives and road racing.

Of course, the obvious answer is to buy a Specialised, Giant, BMC etc. that I can go and try but just look at this with the green highlights https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/road/aeroad/aeroad-cf...

I haa canyon ultiate CF SL and find it great, however my advice is to pay no attention to canyons sizing tool and just look at the actual frame gemetry, i.e stack height, reach, toptube length etc then compare it with what you are currently riding or even other manufacturers (or you could spend £80 on a Retul fitting that will provide you with your idea stack, reach etc), I went from a specialized Tarmac SL (when the frame failed) to the Canyon CFSL and the sizing was nie on identical. Be a little careful on top tube length as my canyon has an 1 1/4 steerer (not the standard 11/8)so you are quite limited on stem choice

Couple of us in this office have Canyons and simply used their online guide and both of us are chuffed to bits.

Incidentally, this year, I'm getting a MTB to join my roadie and the other lad is getting a roadie to compliment his MTB.

I bought an Ultimate SL aero and Inflite earlier this year. Canyon sizing tool was saying to order an XS which was a bit strange as all my other bikes are medium. Called Canyon UK up and they said medium was correct size for me. No problem with fit on either bike when they arrived.

I have a Aeroad in L and was principally based off their calculator although did check back to my bike at the time in terms of stack and reach.

Where are you based as you'd be welcome to try mine if close by?

My next bike, (once I can get board approval,) will be a Canyon. Either an Ultimate SLX or Aeroad.

Size wise, I'll get the biggest and a proper fit, but I'm a bit easier than most in that respect.

I'm now at 8 weeks since i ordered my new MTB : annoying doesn't even come close..

Steve, you'll be a medium because gruffy bought a large. Someday all bike sizes will be based on the size of pistonheads forumites....

Lots of problems with delivery times being extended, so I'd be wary of ordering if your size isn't in stock, unless you don't mind a potentially long wait.

The geometry of the Aeroad, CF SLX and SL are all different. The SL and SLX used to be the same, but the new SLX with hidden seatpost clamp is different from the SL. They are all fairly long reach frames, so are unlikely to suit you if you're used to more of an Endurance fit.

I have a previous model SLX, and it's very light. I have had some problems with the seatpost creaking though, as has a club mate.

No arguing that they're great value though.

I have an Endurace and the online size calculator seemed to come up a little small for my liking. As others have said, best look at the actual frame geometry, top tube etc. and make a decision based on that. You won't regret buying a Canyon though, they are superb pieces of kit

I had exactly the same dilemma as you when I bought my Ultimate CF SLX 8.0 earlier on this year as I was riding a Giant Defy 1 as well. (Medium)

I did the online calculator and entered everything into their website and then did the same again and increased all measurements by 1cm and decreased by 1cm to see what size was recommended. Every time it was a small. I did go for it and I have to say I've never looked back. They are very comfortable bikes and you'll soon realise you were worrying over nothing. As an aside I'd seriously consider driving to Koblenz and buying in Euros (This does depend on where you live of course). I saved over £450 doing it that way.

I got an Aeroad CF SLX9.0 earlier this year, I used the measurement system on the Canyon website but I think they have got rid of it. I'm 6ft with a 33in inseam and I was recommended a Medium (56) and with a bit of fiddling about with saddle height and position it fits like a glove now.

Great bike and lighter than I expected. On rough roads it can be a bit uncomfortable but you could probably ease that a touch with 25mm tyres.

Ive noticed some of their lead times are into next summer but that when I was looking late last year it was pretty much the same and then I ended up getting an "in stock" model in April. If you can hold off until early next year you might find the delivery times get shorter since the initial rush has passed.

Aeroad CF SLX here. I used the online wizard and asked them to triple check it when it came out as a size Large. I'm 6'4" and the Large fits really well.

The online calculator relies almost entirely on inseam to size the bike and is not reliable unless you know you have almost perfectly average proportions and ride a saddle height that corresponds to the formula they use. If you are long-legged I'd size down. Perhaps up if you have a long torso. Best option is to compare frame geo. with an existing bike that fits you (particularly if you don't understand sizing).

My Aeroad is a size small I usually ride a 54cm and this is perfect, quite an aggressive front end which suits me but also be careful in speccing the right length stem/bar combo if you go integrated as the size suggested was too short for me, luckily they are fine with swapping
