Wich Schwalbe tyre

Hoping someone can give me some advice

I ride an orange five 29er, most challenging riding at trial centres such as Forrest of dean, bike park Wales, swinley etc

Currently using continental rubber kings, black chilli, tubeless, 2.2 front and rear

New rear tyre needed soon, so thinking about changing both.

After reading reviews I fancy schwalbe Magic Mary, but it's only available in a 2.35

A mate says that will be good on the front, but too wide for the rear?

I like things to look good as well as be good so don't want to mix makes, so which other schwalbe would compliment the magic Mary on the front.

A nobly Nick on the rear, still only available as a 2.25 so not much thinner.

29" wheels seem to limit me to continent, schwalbe and maxis.

Guidance from someone with tyre experience would be appreciated

Mary front is a good call.

Hans Dampf a good possible rear tyre. Nobby Nic another good one or Rock Razor.

The latter is a good summer tyre, but would be OK in trail centres in the wet.
Hans Dampf can get clogged with mud, but otherwise a good one. Nobby nic a good all-rounder, but I don't find it as good as the other 2 on rocks.

RaRas all year for me, unless it is going to be really muddy, then on go the Nobby Nics...

I run Hans Dampf front and rear and they are much better in all conditions than the Continental Mountain Kings they replaced. It is extremely muddy at the moment where I ride and the Continentals were useless.

I had Nobby Nick Protection's on my 26" bike before, getting my Orange 5 on the Conti Rubber Queen UST Black Chilli compound 26". Nobby Nicks are dog turd in comparison.

The Magic Mary is a grippy slow rolling tyre so I'd think twice about fitting it if you're mostly riding trail centres, unless there's a lot of muddy loamy sections where the MM really comes into its own. If you fancy trying something from Maxxis I can recommend a Minion DHF 3C front and High Roller 2 rear combo. I have these on my Ragley Bigwig 29er hardtail, and I run a Magic Mary front and Minion DHR2 rear on the 29er full suss.

I think I'd be looking at a Specialized Butcher/Purgatory or Maxxis DHR2/HR2 combo.

Mary will be useful in FoD, but not so much on more manicured trail centre stuff. I'm currently on a Hans Dampf/ Ground Control combo on my 29er Codeine, but swapping on an Onza Ibex on the rear and potentially a Shorty up front for proper slop.

Important note if tempted by continental the compound that alters the price from about £15 a tyre to £50 a tyre makes ALL the difference, the lesser compounds are absolutely st offering no grip whatsoever and slice apart on sharp stones in 5mins use.
