QR skewers coming loose

On a couple of recent rides I have noticed my QR skewers coming loose, both the front and rear on separate rides. Is this likely to be down to user error? Or work out cheap skewers?

I've done about 2,500km on the bike and had the wheels off plenty of times, so it seemed strange that both failed recently. Is it time to buy some bling Hope skewers?

Hopes are crap, simples. Check that the delrin washer that the lever pivots on isn't worn down. Check the threaded rod is screwed in the cam tight or locktite them in. Make sure the lever pivots over its highest tight spot when closing or just bin them and get some Shimano ones.

External QR skewers are crap. Internal ones, like Shimano, just work.

Agreed, Shimano make the best QR skewers. Very little else comes close to them for security and ease of use.
Mavic are OK, especially the more expensive ones. Not much else I would recommend to be honest.

There's a big recall with QR skewers, lots of different brands are affected, perhaps yours are in the same group?

USE Spinstix! If they still do them? Top bit of kit, Ive had mine for donkys' and never had any problems.

Got one of these on the rear of my MTB. Prefer them to standard skewers.

Never had one come loose though - any sort of skewer on any of my bikes - road or mtb.

OP you are leaning down on the bike when doing up the QR, to ensure correctly located, yes? Anyway, +whatever on Shimano QRs. Do them up Tight.

Thanks, I did check that a while back, but fortunately that wasn't a problem.

Yes, I've been extra careful after the first time I noticed one was loose.

Bumping this as I am finally getting round to ordering some skewers. Would these be the correct ones? I'm a bit confused by the sizes, I've measured my dropouts to be 100mm front and 135mm rear, which I believe is standard. However these seem to be listed by skewer length, rather than dropout distance.

168 front 173 rear is standard

100mm and 135mm will be the internal dropout measurement, which is fairly standard for MTBs and some road disc bikes.
I can only assume those sizes are the full skewer length.

They fit!

At least lengthways, the shape of the lever is such that it can't claim fully closed between the chain stay and seat stay on my frame, but it tucks in nicely under the chain stay.
