soggy tenner

I'm looking for something like a Lezyne Caddy Sack I think, but not sure if that's the best out there or what size to get if so.

This is just to put my phone (for strava logging and emergency assistance) maybe a car key depending on the ride, some cash and a credit card. Normally I just shove this stuff in a pocket but on a recent very wet ride I did fear for the phone though happily it survived. I know some people like to preserve the line of the bike and shove pumps/co2/tyre levers/multitool/spare tube in one of these things - but that's not for me, I'm happy using a small saddlebag for that.

I've seen these options talked about:-
- Caddy sack
- Rapha equivalent
- freezer bag
- pencil case

What do you do and why? What size? Any other bright ideas?

I just use my rear jersey pocket for a phone or a little polly bag that zips closed (is that a freezer bag) if it's wet.

Same if I'm running really, or just hold it in my hand. I've only tripped and thrown it across the road a few times over the years.

Cor, £7.69 would buy a fair few ziplock foodbags that would keep your bits dry!

Alternatively, why not replace your small saddlebag with a medium saddlebag and put it all in that? I dont like my phone being in a pocket, because if i came off i might want it to be in full working order, not in several pieces between me and the road!

I did get a "tri-bag" which goes on the top tube by the stem - needed a bit of extra storage for a 9-hour adventure, and thats quick nice and accessible for getting sweets out on the move.

I'm slightly biased against the freezer bag because I've read that they aren't perfect, I lose an opportunity to buy something new and shiny and £8 isn't that much.

I'm not keen on the bigger saddle-bag idea or tri-bag on aesthetic grounds. I take the point that a phone might be safer under the saddle or up-top but not so much I want to go either route.

I use a cheap phone case/wallet. All the time, not just for riding. Has a slits for cards (inc a next of kin card) & cash, magnetic clasp. Couple of quid off ebay. Stays dry enough in my pack pocket, even when lashing down (full mudguards help).

Always use freezer type bags whether it's wet or dry, never had an issue, they take up no room, weigh nothing & are as good as free whilst doing just as good a job.

I use a small Caddy Sack and it does what it says on the tin really; Keeps stuff safe and dry, and fits neatly in jersey pockets. I've been using the same one for years and it looks like the day I received it. Yes, freezer bags are cheaper but it's still less than a soggy tenner.

I use a couple of clear grip-seal bags/wallets. Works a treat and costs sod all!

I find the caddy sack a little bulky personally, yes it's effective but for just a phone, card and 20CHF note I always go with a small ziploc sandwich bag - I get them from Ikea, they're cheap and fairly reusable too.

I use two of these caddy sack things on every ride, bloody good they are, off course there are are cheaper options.

I tried a cadd shack equivalent and found it good but too bulky

Just shove it all in my pockets now, phone in a "tough" case and wrapped in a sealable bag

Bit 'out there' but I use a cheapo Nintendo DS carry case for everything but my phone, no MAMIL tax so they are only a couple of quid. Something like this:



Semi-rigid and showerproof, a pump/CO2 chuck, canister, tube, levers, patches, lock and multitool all fit in neatly so there's no rattling about, and I keep a tenner + change in a plastic sandwich bag in there too just in case the coffee shop doesn't do contactless. My phone goes in a plastic wallet thingy if it looks like being a wet one, leaving a pocket free for snacks.

It fits nicely in the centre pocket of a jersey and means only one thing + phone to grab when I'm leaving and two things to take out when I get back. The number of times I've left and forgotten gas, levers etc...

Usually it just holds my mobile, debit card, a tenner and car key if I've driven somewhere. I've never had a problem with it leaking yet.

I can't quite see the point in paying for a cycling specific glorified freezer bag when you don't really need one.

I use the Lezyne medium one myself as I have a couple of jerseys without zipped pockets. Prefer it over ziplock type bags as it wedges itself nicely into a jersey pocket, fits phone cash and keys and I reckon the phone would survive well if it came out of the pocket.

+1 - I use two though, one inside the other - never had an issue even in the most torrential of downpours. But, I am a 'minimalist' cyclist and carry as little as possible with as little bulk as possible, so even if there was a super sexy, cycling specific, super wallet that not only protects your cards and phone but also makes you more attractive to the opposite sex, and more likely to gain KOM's I still wouldn't buy one unless it was less bulky than a ziplock bag!
